fanfan mm:

GWD-12-Q29:

The Earth’s rivers constantly carry dissolved salts into its oceans.  Clearly, therefore, by taking the resulting increase in salt levels in the oceans over the past hundred years and then determining how many centuries of such increases it would have taken the oceans to reach current salt levels from a hypothetical initial salt-free state, the maximum age of the Earth’s oceans can be accurately estimated.

Which of the following is an assumption on which the argument depends?

  1. The quantities of dissolved salts deposited by rivers in the Earth’s oceans have not been unusually large during the past hundred years.

  2. At any given time, all the Earth’s rivers have about the same salt levels.

  3. There are salts that leach into the Earth’s oceans directly from the ocean floor.

  4. There is no method superior to that based on salt levels for estimating the maximum age of the Earth’s oceans.
  5. None of the salts carried into the Earth’s oceans by rivers are used up by biological activity in the oceans.

如果是过去几百年,应该为over the past hundreds of years。 SORRY

Left-handed persons suffer more frequently than do right-handed persons from certain immune disorders, such as allergies. Left-handers tend to have an advantage over the right-handed majority, however, on tasks controlled by the right hemisphere of the brain, and mathematical reasoning is strongly under the influence of the right hemisphere in most people.

If the information above is true, it best supports which of the following hypotheses?

(A) Most people who suffer from allergies or other such immune disorders are left-handed rather than right-handed.

(B) Most left-handed mathematicians suffer from some kind of allergy.

(C) There are proportionally more left-handers among people whose ability to reason mathematically is above average than there are among people with poor mathematical reasoning ability.

(D) If a left-handed person suffers from an allergy, that person will probably be good at mathematics.(C)

(E) There are proportionally more people who suffer from immune disorders such as allergies than there are people who are left-handed or people whose mathematical reasoning ability is unusually good.

There are proportionally more left-handers among people whose ability to reason mathematically is above average than there are (left-handers) among people with poor mathematical reasoning ability.

原文:I. weakness of left-handers:
Left-handed persons suffer more frequently than do right-handed persons from certain immune disorders, such as allergies.

II. strenghth of left-handers:
Left-handers tend to have an advantage over the right-handed majority, however, on tasks controlled by the right hemisphere of the brain,

III. an example of strenghth: and mathematical reasoning is strongly under the influence of the right hemisphere in most people.

II & III ---------> Left-handers tend to have an advantage over the right-handed majority, on mathematical reasoning ---------->left-handers account for a greater portion among people good at math than among people not good at math, i.e. 选项 C.
