最后一天啦!!!冲鸭(蟹蟹妥妥 苦老师 元元 真的辛苦啦 也蟹蟹大佬同学们po出来的笔记!)
第二篇(5’12+20=25mins) 商科类,提出问题——理论解释——举例说明——further implications beyond thestudy Main Idea: The passage discussed the reason why customers do little repurchase search for durable search and price-comparison shopping by introducing W&T’s theories and related examples. *这篇文章的难点在于:几个概念之间的关系比较复杂,要搞清楚谁和谁正相关/反相关. 文章类型: Sub-Points: P1 开篇点题,第一句就说明了整篇文章要讨论的核心问题是【why customers do little repurchases each for durable search and price-comparison shopping】。然后给出了两种explanation: 1) 消费者低估了price variation (×) 2) W’spsychophysics law & T’s transaction utility theory (supported√)。第二种√因为data shows【the psychological utility derived from saving & the price of the item】is inversely related (i.e., tho price variation is greater in expensive items, customers still don’t wanna do price-comparison shopping). P2 进一步解释第二种explanation: - W: 【individual’s response to change in astimulus&absolute magnitude of the original stimulus】is inversely related - T: 【the psychological utility derived from saving & the price of the theitem】is inversely related (gave an example: $20 in --> Defines 【consumers’ tendency to assess the utility of price saving】as “psycho-of-price heuristic”--> Consumer translates the expected savings: change price search into other terms instead of absolute dollars. P3 给了一个example,但好像和文章的观点是相冲突的:$20 in $400 (激发的pursuefurther price search) >$20 in $100 P4 阐述这一现象所带来的further economic consequences: help explain P’stheory: 【actual market price variation of standardized items&their AVG price】正相关,呼应P1-2的观点
Vocabulary: Heuristic 启发式 Normatively 标准地
可能的出题点: 最近做了OG的阅读,做完之后重新分析文章和拆解题目,发现每逢【表态度的词(及后面紧跟的句子)】必是出题高发处,所以遇到这种词要打气十二分的精神,比如: 动词:argue, suggest, support, obscure(gmat还蛮喜欢用这个词,比如A学者认为B学者的观点obscure了XX理论 所以要不得)… 形容词:odd, supportive, paradoxical… 所以实践一下,我jio得这篇文章可能会在这种地方出题:“Thaler’s transaction utility theory suggests that the psychological utility that a consumer derives from saving a fixed amount of money…not increase as much as predicted by transaction utility theory”(因为这是文中提到的理论的核心内容,又有“suggest”这个词)
第一篇(7+28=35mins) Main Idea: The passage introduced the predatory trading strategy (its context, working mechanism, and implications) under the background of the cruel Wall Street. Sub-Points: P1-2 Descript of the cruel and fluctuating capital market in Wall Street: cripple professionals, run counter to textbooks P3-7 Introduce the predatory trading strategy by giving an example ( cr: MB and LP): predator is the trader who 1) buy shares as fast as he can and drive the price high 2) has limited capacity (to stop immediately before a certain loss point) 3)under the illiquid market condition. P8-9 Further Implications from the study of MB and LP: - illiquid market↑(i.e., longer time for prey to escape),predators’ profit scope↑(i.e., more room for price falling); - distressed trader’s selling quicker↑, predators’profit↓ - Back to Wall Street & the Predator Theory: what makes the strategy effective↑: Wall Street’s collusion + prey’s short-sellers’ vulnerable status P10 回归主题:The Predator theory is the reason why hedge funds put their traders through several brokers. State again “no loyalties in inWall Street”.
Favourite Sentences: There are no loyalties on Wall Street. When you smell blood in the water, you become a shark. There was something about a dying client that sent these brokers to go to the untapped pay phone downstairs—all brokerage calls are recorded—and tell their buddies.
Vocabulary: hammerhead 锤头,笨蛋 bombed-out 被炸毁的 tech darling 科技宠儿 remorseless 冷酷无情的,(令人不快的事)持物不断的 confession 忏悔 acting in concert 合谋
