hi yaoyao, good day. i've submitted to hbs on r2. do you have any suggestion if i can try to do more to improve my chance of admission? thanks.

以下是引用yaoyao99在2008-1-7 21:51:00的发言:
Congratulations!  There's honestly nothing that you can do besides preparing for the interview.  Good luck!

thanks yao. we shall see if there's an invitation. how's boston weather now? my friend told me that it can go all the way down to -15"C. scary stuff.  for R2 do you know normally when will the invitation be sent out? hence i will start checking emails again (esp with the @!$$@#%@#$ lousy unconfigurable junk mail filter... it junked hbs's confirmation email of application submission!)

No idea.  I'm enjoying the sunny California.  There's no normalcy for interview invitations.  It could happen now or the day when they announce the decisions.  You might want to spend some time reconfigure your mail filter.  Good luck!

Hi, we all went through the painful waiting process. Last year, I applied in R2 and got my invitation in late Jan, Hope this gave you some idea, but certainly it varied a lot. There're people who received it in Feb, even in March and also got admitted finally. So don't panic! If you are confident with your package, just relax and be yourself in the interview, you will be fine.

Thanks camelhill. That did give me some feeling of the range of the invitation period. Yao on a vacation? heh then does anyone know how to confugure the yahoo mail... i don't see an option for the junk mail configuration though :-)

Hi, I have always been very interested in the HBS MBA program, and been planning to apply for the third round, but as I was about to complete my application today, I found this on the instructions page:

The Admissions Board strongly encourages international applicants to apply by the second decision period (Round 2) to allow admitted applicants ample time to address language, visa, housing, and financial aid issues.

So I have a few questions:

1, Is there going to be enough time for the visa and financial aid issues if I apply for the third round and get admitted?

2, Has HBS accepted international students who apply for the third round in previous years?

3, Would you still encourage me to apply for the third round now, or should wait for the next year?

Many Thanks!!!!

以下是引用yaoyao99在2008-2-26 0:14:00的发言:

1. That depends on how long it will take to process your visa.  I won't worry too much about financial aid if you're admitted.  In the worst case scenario, you can always take out a full loan to cover all your expenses.

2. I'm sure the number isn't zero but I won't know the exact percentage.

3. It's up to you.  R1 is only a few months away.  If you really want to give it a shot, it never hurts to apply because HBS does not treat re-applicants differently but I won't get my hopes up unless you an extremely strong package.

Thank you very much! It's very helpful.   I think I will give it a shot, considering that one of my recommenders has submitted the recommendation and I should not waste his energy, hehe.  Best!

以下是引用yaoyao99在2008-2-27 11:34:00的发言:
I'm not sure if that's a good reason to apply for R3.  The questions for recommenders don't change much from year to year.  I'm sure him/her will be more than happy to resubmit the same write-up for you, maybe with more thoughtful comments the second time around.

Yaoyao, That's a good point. The thing for me is that I couldn't afford to wait for another year. Will give it a shot and see how my luck turns out. Do you have any idea how many mainlanders have been admitted to harvard this year, and what's the norm of the number of admitted chinese in previous years?

以下是引用yaoyao99在2008-3-1 4:43:00的发言:
About 15-20 each year from PRC.

Dear Harvard CDers, Thank you for all your help and suggestions for our new applicants. I am going to visit Harvard Business School on April 30 (next Wednesday). Currently I live in Westchester County of New York and work for a biotech company. Could I ask is it possible that I could meet some of you for a coffee or meal during the visit? I am really appreciated if I could talk to you to get some precious information about Harvard MBA. My Email is: wding99(A) hotmail.com Thank you very much! Dong Wang

Thank you for your interest and welcome to campus.  First year students have final exam on Friday the second so most of the first years will be preoccupied that day with review and study sessions.  Have you signed up for class visit, lunch with current students, campus tour, or admissions info session?  http://www.hbs.edu/mba/admissions/visit.html  I would also recommend reaching out to second year students, especially ones from the clubs and student organizations that you are interested in.  http://www.hbs.edu/mba/studentlife/clubs.html

Thank you for the response. I signed up for the activities. I guess the time I visit is a litte tricky

Sorry, I still don't get the TOEFL for master or Ph.D, although someone has posted a varation before.

On HBS website's TOEFL requirement section, the 3rd paragraph states: "Candidates who received a master's or Ph.D. degree from an English-speaking university are strongly encouraged to submit the TOEFL and/or IELTS."

http://www.hbs.edu/mba/admissions/internationalapplicants.html

Does it mean "candiates (who received a master's or Ph.D. degree from an English-speaking university) and (who received their bachelor's degree from a non-English-speaking university) are strongly encouraged (but not required) to take TOEFL" ?

For Example: A candidate received both bachelor's and master's from English-speaking universities. Is (s)he exempted from TOEFL by the 1st paragraph or is (s)he strongly encouraged to submit the TOEFL by the 3rd paragraph?

Hi, zz1234567.  For such specific question regarding school policy, we are not in a good position to give you the firm answer, please contact the admission office for confirmation.

Sometimes it's helpful to step back and think about what makes most sense.  The majority of the applicants from the US fit your example and will not benefit from a high TOEFL score.

好学校,学费也不便宜.

以下是引用yaoyao99在2008-4-23 11:15:00的发言:
It's on par with other good schools and definitely well worth it.
