1. The GMATtests your current skills, not how smart you are.
Skills get weaker when you don’t usethem. Like muscles, if you don’t exercise, they get weaker. We’ve found after students graduatefrom college, their scores drop by 15 points on the GMAT for every year theyhave been out of school. This is because they aren’t using and exercising theskills measured by the GMAT.
Your first step: assess your strengths and weaknesses. Thereare many resources that can help you prepare for taking the GMAT. However you will want to focuson the GMAT area where you are the weakest. To evaluate yourself, I recommendtaking the practice exam. You can take practice exams online or purchase asample test book.
During the first practice test you mightfind that you are at the 90th percentile on the verbal portion, but yourquantitative section placed you at the 50th percentile. You will want to shiftyour focus to prepare heavily for the quant section. This is not to say thatyou should ignore the other sections of the exam when studying. You should prepare and practicefor all sections. Just make sure you have enough room for improvement in theareas you spend the most time and effort to raise your score to the levelneeded. Spend your effort on the types of questions you need to improve.
After taking the practice tests, determine your study strategy. Some students use material from Beat The GMAT,MBA.com (the GMAT website), or your local bookstore. You may even decide toenroll in test prep classes. However, you will want to keep in mind that thebest brand of test prep is not the key to your success. The time you dedicateto preparing is! Also take into consideration, the quality of the instructor,if you use test prep courses. Focus on how experienced they are and their styleof communication. 3 Hours Ago As a simple rule, if your skills arestill good, plan to study at least one hour per day, four days per week, for 4to 6 weeks. If you have been out of school for several years, increase thestudy time. We have seen students who have increased their GMAT scores by 50 to100 points by identifying their weaknesses, then studying to improve weakareas. GMAT考试需要准备一个月左右的时间,当然每个申请者的情况都不样。查漏补缺,相信对于大多数中国申请者来说, verbal部分是比较困难的。所以可以花更多的时间准备verbal 部分。
3 Hours Ago 2. Pace yourselfand understand the rules. 3 Hours Ago First, some students score low on the GMAT because they don’t finish the test in time.Learn to be a marathon runner – pace yourself. When you take practice tests, limityourself to the time allowed to develop a sense whether you are going too fastor slow through the test.
If possible, take the practice tests atthe same time of the day as your actual testing appointment. This will allowyou to “train your brain” and you will be able to find out the right pace thatworks for you.
Take the optional breaks to clear yourmind and regain your mental stamina.
Also, understand the rules of the GMAT.A number of students told us that they skipped through the questions on theGMAT, thinking that they could return and answer skipped questions. If you skipa question, it marks it wrong. Make your best guess before moving to the nextquestion. GMAT是一项考验体力和智力的考试。在做模拟考试的时候,最好能模拟考试紧张的节奏,感受三个多小时连续作战。
