This math Question is from Powerprep 3
A clock strikes every hour, and the times it strikes are according to the number of the hour. (at 1 o’clock, it strikes once, 2 o’clock twice) If at 6am, the laps from the beginning of the first strike to the end of the last strike is 22 second, how many seconds will it take from the beginning of the first strike to the end of the last strike when it’s 12 am?
The answer says that there are 5 intervals between the 1st strike and the last one, so there will be 2*5+1 periods in 22 second, each one being 2 seconds. Therefore, at 12 am, there will be 11 intervals and thus, 11*2+1=23 periods, and 23 periods will take 46 seconds.
Does anyone know how does the strike work? Because I am confused why we have to add 1 to 2*numbers of intervals?
Thank you!
