2、地幔
of heat loss from the core is suf?cient to maintain the magnetic ?eld at its present intensity. However, that rate of core cooling implies the inner core would have been growing relatively rapidly, and that it began to solidify less than 2 Ga ago (Labrosse et al., 2001). This in turn means that before the inner core formed only thermal convection would have been available to drive the dynamo, and a purely thermally driven dynamo would require a larger heat ?ow to maintain it (Gubbins et al., 2003). This leads ?nally to the implication that the core was hotter in the past than seems reasonable (Buffett, 2002; Nimmo et al., 2004). Core radioactivity would resolve this dilemma by allowing suf?cient heat ?ow to drive the dynamo without implying rapid cooling of the core, and therefore without implying excessive core temperatures in the past. |
