In the past several years, astronomers have detected more than 80 massive planets, most of them as large or larger than Jupiter, which circle other stars. which结构上可以修饰jupiter(... Jupiter, which),也可以修饰planets(... planets, ....., which) 而C选项 Jupiter, most of them at least as large as Jupiter, circling 因为只可能是Jupiter, ..., Ving 的形式。 3. A short non-essential phrase intervenes and is set off by commas.
Good catch, and that is what I don't like A. Because of it look ambiguous for me when I read A. There are two posibile antecedants of A 1) Jupiter, which ( of course, it look like ridiculus) 2) planets, ... , which For C beause N, ving cannot modifier N so the 1st above posibility was eliminated. Only planets can be antecedant of ving. Also pls ref Manhattan SC strategy guide: 3. A shortnon-essentialphrase intervenes and is set off by commas. Right: Our system of Presidential elections favorsstates, such as Delaware, that by population are over-represented in the Electoral College. The short phrasesuch as Delawaresneaks between the nounstatesand its modifierthat by population are over-represented in the Electoral College. There is nowhere else logical to put the phrasesuch as Delaware. Because this phrase is short, its insertion is acceptable.Right: Our system of Presidential elections favorsstates, such as Delaware, that by population are over-represented in the Electoral College. 如果这样说,那么句子就无异于astronomers have detected more than 80 massive planets (, most of them at least as large as Jupiter,) circling other stars.
133.In the past several years, astronomers have detected more than 80 massive planets, most of them as large or larger than Jupiter, which circle other stars.(A) most of them as large or larger than Jupiter, which circle(B) most of them as large or larger than Jupiter and circling(C) most of them at least as large as Jupiter, circling(D) mostly at least as large as Jupiter, which circle(C)(E) mostly as large or larger than Jupiter, circling我的理解是这个circling,不是状语成分,而是名词(most of them)的修饰语:句尾独立主格在逻辑层次上对应完整的主谓,句尾的独立主格对应的完整主谓其实就是“most of the detected massive planets are at least as large as Jupiter, circling other stars.”,其中circling修饰planets,符合3中a)所述。-- by 会员 jeffery2541 (2012/9/14 0:55:37)
