The reading passage explores the issue of seeking a replacement for the automobile's main source of power, the internal-combustion engine. The professor's lecture deals with the same issue. However, she thinks that hydrogen-based fuel-cell engine isn't perfect like the reading states. And in the lecture, she uses three specific points to support her idea.
First, even though the reading passage suggests that hydrogen can be derived from various plentiful sources such as natural gas and water. The professor argues in the lecture that it is true, however, not all forms of hydrogen can be used. Hydrogen is not easily available like the reading passage says. There are many forms of hydrogen, but only pure liquid form is needed. And it is difficult to store or produce liquid hydrogen. So, hydrogen cannot be easily available which contradict to the passage.
Moreover, even though the only by-product of fuel-cell engines is water, it cannot solve the pollution problems. Professor contends that in order to get pure liquid hydrogen, coals and oils are needed. So, even though the cars are not polluted to the air, the burning of coals and oils still pollute the air which makes the environment more polluted.
Finally, the professor asserts that people will not spend less money to operate a fuel-cell engine, because it needs a precious mantle which costs a lot of money. The professor also proves that without that mantle, the engine doesn’t go the chemical reaction and if replace by a cheap mantle, the engine doesn’t work(最后这个小细节有点出入~说的是寻找代替金属的实验都失败了).
In conclusion, the professor clearly identifies there is still some difficulties to replace the internal-combustion engine with the hydrogen-based fuel-cell engine. 写得不错呢~加油
