Frankly speaking, we don't have Chinese students with working experience of 2-3 years. The youngest Chinese student this year has 4-year working experience. However there are a few of American students without much working experience.

I read that the average GMAT at Darden is ~680 (median 690). Is this for the entire class? I'm guessing for foreign students (non-citizen Chinese applicants) the average would be (much) higher, right? How many native Chinese students in the first year class?

Also in your opinion, how would you rank the importance of the following factors: GMAT, GPA, interview, essays, recommendations.

A question about the dealine. Unlike three rounds in other schools, Darden has four rounds admin. The second is Dec 1st and the third is in Jan (the same time as others' second). For international students, would the third round cause some disadvantage? by the way, the result for the second round will come out in Feb 2005 while in my appl. pool, others will come out at the end of March. Can i hold the Darden offer till that time if i get admined? Do you know what's deadline for the deposit payment? Would it cause some bad influence on my visa if I change my mind after i paid the deposit? thanks a lot!

Janchen, we have 14 Chinese students this year, 7 directly from mainland (3 SH and 4 BJ) and 7 from United States and Canada. All of 14 students are holding Chinese passport. There are 4 or 5 ABC in our class. This year, we have 306 students in total.

Darden does not take care too much attention to your GMAT and GPA score. Darden really cares the career progression, leadership, communication skills and your past working experience. Spend more time on your essay and interview. If you have average GMAT score, you are fine to get admitted. If your career focus is consulting, GMAT and GPA matter. As far as I know, BCG really look at your GMAT and grading in business school.

Ygjm, my takeaway is to apply as early as possible. Best Chance is frist R1. Darden has changed the method of interview this year. It is BY INVITATION only! Admission officer who is in charge of Asia say:

"The method for interviewing in Asia is changing with this trip.  The interviews will be by invitation only after I meet the candidates at the fair.  If I choose to interview someone, it will be only after conversing with them at the MBA Forum table.  I will most likely be taking a second trip to Asia in the winter to interview candidates whose files have been read by the Admissions Committee.  "

So I encourage all of you to visit Darden booth at the forum. Some Darden Alumni will be there to help.

Last year, you can confirm Darden latest by April,15th. So it is not a problem. I really enjoy studying @ Darden. It is a great place to study and make friends. Darden definitely exceed my expectation. You will never regret studying at Darden.

Thanks for sharing the information with us. I have some questions:

1. In the Darden placement profile's "employment by function area", I see that Corporate (29%) and Marketing (6%). I am wondering why the "Marketing" is seperated from "Corporate"? Does the "Marketing" here mean "Marketing research or consulting"?

2. In the placement Corporate (29%), it divides into "General Management (21%)" and "Business Development (8%)".  Does the GM here refer to the actual GM position or GM-to-be position?

3. After reading the brochure, I know that in Darden's career development center, there exists a bidding system for current student's interview requests. I am just curious about that. Would you please explain a little bit about how that system works?

I had a question for job placement.  How is the job placement for Chinese students and how is the first-year internship situation?  

As I am finance focused, I would like to know how do you think case study can help students to build up finance knowledge?

you mentioned that this year's interview is only by invitation. becuae I could make my application files completed to meet 3rd round deadline, is it disadvantage for that and how and when the interview will be conducted according to this adjustment?

if we apply 3rd round, do we stand the same chance for the scholarship or loan as an international applicant?
