In its 1903 decision in the case of Lone Wolf v. Hitchcock, the United States Supreme Court rejected the Line efforts of three Native American tribes to the opening of tribal lands to non-Indian settlement without tribal consent.

请问是谁想 “prevent the opening the tribal ...", 是Super Court,  还是, Native American Tribe?

I think it is Native American who want prevent the opening....

But Super Court's decision rejected to the efforts of Native American.

having taken further reflection, I came to understand that the key word is effort, the normal useage of effort is "the effort to do ... , " so it is the native American tribes, ... I agreed with you.

意思是１９３０年Lone Wolf 的官司中，三个Native American tribes提出要求说，没有部落的允许，非土著人不准在部落的领地里安家，但是United States Supreme Court拒绝了。表明联邦政府对印第安人政策从谈判和订条约转向了专制。其实在这之前，从１８７１年开始就已经有了这种转变的倾向，不过在Lone Wolf的case前，联邦政府和土著部落还是签条约的。Lone Wofe的决定结束了谈判时代。

我的理解大致是这个意思

难道indian 和native american 是一回事？court 拒绝了native american，说明court同意non-indian部落的领地里安家呀，那是正面的意思啊，为什么是转向专制呢？不明白.
