Both of the lecturer and the writer discuss the reasons for the declining number of yellow cedar, a tree species used to populate the northwestern North America. The author lists three hypotheses to explain the situation. The professor, on the contrary, believes that the reason is still unclear and all the explanations raised by the writer are inadequate.

First, it is known that the healthy yellow cedar is more resist to insect infection because their bark and leaves are saturated with powerful chemical, which is poisonous to insects. For the truth of cedar bark beetles found attacking the yellow cedars, the professor claims that those damaged trees are already sick or dead before the appearance of beetles(貌似我听到的是说已经damage 或者sick了 所以注定好是要死的。。). Therefore, beetles are not the fundamental cause to the dropping number of the yellow cedars, which directly improves its counterpart in the reading passage that it is the cedar bark beetles result in the declining number of yellow cedars.

Moreover, the speaker declares that bears, a main factor mentioned in the reading material, are not the cause for the overall damage got yellow cedars. He further explains that the yellow cedar population is decreasing on both main land and island near the coast in northwestern North America. The point is that no bears live on the island, where the tree number is also suffering. If the declining happens with or without bears, they are therefore not reasonable. Consequently, this is another point where experiences the contradicted theory.(简直是原句复述。。强人。。。

At last, the lecturer asserts that the passage forgot to take one factor into account in discussing the damage of root system caused by climate changes that is more trees die at lower elevation where there is a warm environment instead of at higher elevation with cold weather. According to the statement in the reading, cold weather is the main reason for the damages to root system. However, the truth displayed to be the opposite, warm environment leads to more death. If it is the climate to be blame for the changes in root system, it is not the one that killing them. Accordingly, the last point is rebutted.

To sum up, the professor clearly identifies the weaknesses in the passage and convincingly shows that the central arguments, the three hypotheses, are incorrect.

Both of thelecturer and the writer explore the existence of animal tissues in the fossilsof T.rex's leg bone. The author lists three evidences to support his point thatthere are animal tissues. The professor, on the contrary, insists that all theinformation is skeptical and they may not be the tissues of T.rex.

First, the soft substance are not necessarily leftby the blood vessels, states the speaker, it can be the residue of bacteria. Heexplains that long after the organisms have died, bacteria colonize thehollows, like blood vessels, in the bone. The detected soft organic substancecould probably be the traces of organic substance left behind by the bacteriainstead of the blood vessels in the bone. Therefore, this directly disprovesits counterpart in the reading material.

Moreover, the professor declares that sphere hasbeen discovered to be contained in other animals' body at the same period oftime, including primitive animals that do not have red blood cell. If animalsdo not have red blood cell, the sphere cannot be the origin of the blood cellmentioned in the reading
while, maybe they are reddish mineral. Consequently, this isanother place experiences the contradicted theory.

At last, the lecturer asserts that no collagen canlive longer than 100000 years. Compared with the age, 70 million years old, ofthe T.rex's fossils, it contradicts people's understanding of the time collagencan live and seems improbable. Furthermore, the professor points out that adifferent and more recent origin can explain the finding of collagen-the skinof a researcher who was handling the bone. Accordingly, the last point isrebutted.

In conclusion, the professor clearly identifiesthe weaknesses in the reading material and convincingly shows that the centralarguments in the passage, three statements, are incorrect.

Both of the lecturer and the writer explore the issue of the usage of Chao structures, massive stone building contain hundreds of rooms. The author lists three competing theories. The professor, on the contrary, insists that none of the theories are convincing.

First, the outside of the Chao structure may looks like the building at Taos, says the speaker, however, on the inside, it casts serious doubts on the theory that they were for residential. If hundreds people once live there, as the explanation in the reading material, there would be enough fire place for people's daily cooking. However, in the largest house only fie place for 10 families were found though the room was enough for 100 families. Therefore, the function of the Chao structures could not have been residential.

Moreover, the professor claims that the storage usage may sound plausible. It does not have much evidence either. He explains that the excavation have not found many traces of maize on the floor or maize container. If it is used for storage, why there are not maize on the floor or any containers for maize. Consequently, this is another place experiences the contradicted theory.

At last, the lecturer asserts that the mond near the structure is not a good evidence for its usage of ceremonial centers as stated in the passage. Excavations find other things except broken pots such as construction tools and sand that are not expected to appear in the ceremonial centers. Accordingly, the mond is a trash of construction material that through away after the building. For the broken pots, the professor declares that they are leftovers from the meal of construction workers. Consequently, this disproves its counterpart in the reading material.

In conclusion, the professor clearly identifies the weaknesses in the passage and convincingly shows that the central arguments, three competing theories, are incorrect.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Since the world has changed so much in the past fifty years, advice our grandparents can give us is not useful.

Old people are always considered to be the symbol of wisdom in my country, as early as Tang Dynasty, old people’s words often wins a great concern of the emperor. From my point of view, though in the past fifty years the world has experienced great changes, the old people have been through all those events successfully. Accordingly, they are experienced without doubts. Therefore, their words are of certain importance for us to take into consideration, so the advice from grandparents is still useful.

To begin with, grandparents are experienced. They know how to deal with unexpected things or big events in life. You will take the burden if you do not listen to the old, is the old saying in China that examines what the situation means. Should we go to work right after the graduation of high school? Should we marry a person from an extremely different culture? Or should we devote ourselves in charity area for the whole life? All those things waited for us to answer can borrow the opinion from the advice of grandparents. Indeed, revolutionary changes happened in the society in the past years. However, grandparents saw them, talked to them and even competed with them and they survived. How can we not listen to the words from a winner? Besides, grandparents love us, they will do whatever they can to assist us even though they have to cast down their old fashion opinion and learn the new one.

Another equally significant view is that people can change, so do our grandparents. Surrounded by all the new technologies and myriad of information, grandparents are able to learn some of them. Therefore, they can become as modern as the young also can they be equipped with the most up-to-date understanding of the world. Recently, my grandfather who is retired and has plenty of time is learning about how to use computer at home. With the assistance from the internet, he commands enough skills to create his own programs and he even tracks the latest development of software around worldwide. Occasionally, when I encounter difficulties, it is my aged grandfather whom I have to turn to for advice. He has devoted enough time to catch up with the modern world. Consequently, there is no reason for me not to listen to his advice. In this way, grandparents can know the changeable world better than us sometimes, which makes their advice of even more value.

To sum up, statement like all the advice from our grandparents could not be helpful is incorrect. Grandparents are experienced and they are learning to be as knowledgeable as us about the frequently changing new world. In all, we still should pay high attention to their advice nowadays.

Both of the lecturer and the writer explore the problems about communal online encyclopedia. The author lists three possible problems about the online encyclopedia. The professor, on the contrary, insists that the writer ignore that how far the online encyclopedia has come. Moreover, online encyclopedia can never be perfect and the problems are just the small price to pay for what is does offer.

First, the speaker declares that problems can be found in the online encyclopedia as well as in the traditional encyclopedia. It never comes to perfect. Furthermore, if people want to find a really comprehensive work without any mistakes they cannot find it on or off line. The point is that, errors in the online encyclopedia can be corrected easily, while the errors in the traditional one can remain for decades. Therefore, this disproves its counterpart in the reading material.

Moreover, about the hacking problem, it has been recognized that it is important to protect online articles from hacking, says the lecturer. Two strategies are utilized. Crucial facts in the articles that no one disputes about are put into the read only format, which means no one can make changes about the articles and that ensures the facts are reliable. Besides, there are special editors whose work is to monitor all the changes in the articles online and they will eliminate the unbelievable one. Consequently, this is another place where experiences the contradicted theory.

At last, the professor asserts that online encyclopedia can not only represent the academic articles but also it reflects the great variety of interests from the readers. He explains that the space in the traditional encyclopedia is limited so that it has to be decided what is important and what is not. In practice, the academic group makes that decision, which does not reflect the great range of interests of the readers. However, there is no limitation of space in online encyclopedia, variety kinds of views and articles can appear which reflects the interests of the public well. In fact, the diversity of topics and views in online encyclopedia is one of its greatest advantages. Accordingly, the last point is rebutted.

In conclusion, the professor clearly identifies the weaknesses in the passage and convincingly shows that the central arguments in the reading, the three possible problems, are incorrect.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement that the most important problems in today’s world will be solved in our lifetime.

The society is developing, so does the accumulation of problems in today's world. Hundreds of thousands African children are dying of starvation. Millions of people are losing their job in each minute in the rapidly changing economic world. Moreover, thousands tons of carbon dioxide is emitted into the atmosphere and worsen the global warming. The list of problems will go on. With such a large scale of problems, facing them necessitate the distribution of great endeavor into small parts. Therefore, hardly can there be a problem be solved in our lifetime.

To begin with, global warming, the most controversial problem that has been discussed fiercely is so severe that seems impossible to be enhanced. The recent research results from the academic group in Japan shows that the acceleration of the warming in worldwide is increasing by 12% compared with the same time in the past. What can people obtain from this piece if truth? More glacial is melting to destroy more available land in the populated area. Soaring temperature negatively affects the already hot tropical areas. Endangered animals died from the intolerable climate change which will impair human's food chains at last. When encountering with such a wide range and severe problem, human's devotion may not help. Additionally, only by controlling the emission of co2 can people solve this problem. However, this directly contradicted with the improving needs of lots of developing countries for an extent period of time. Due to those reasons, the wide influential range of the problem and the contradiction in the needs of some countries, problems cannot be solved in a limited length of time.

Another equally important point is that there are too many problems now showing on the stage require people’s attention. The outcome is that no one can gain enough attention. The ability of human is restricted, especially when facing with a complex world. Problems are coming from every aspects of the world-unevenly distribution of natural resources and capital, high extinction rate of wild animals and enlarged gap between the poor and the rich. Economy, nature and resource, are where thousands of problems generating from. Even if people own great power to deal with the difficulties, when distributing that power to diverse aspects, the efficiency will be impaired mostly. It is the same with students' studying. Using the limited time, space and attention to command eight difference courses makes it difficult to be done in quickly. Accordingly, hard it is indeed for people to achieve the goal of solving the problems in their lifetime.

Admittedly, others may against my point by stating that with assistance of advanced technology people can find the solutions sooner or later. The point is that those people are too optimistic. Up till now, not even an environmental problem is accomplished by technology. Furthermore, people have to devote much endeavor and time that can be utilized to solve problems in improving technologies. In all, nothing can be modified through this way.

In conclusion, the wideness spreading and the diverse classifying of problems, accompanied with the limited capital and time owned by people, produces the situation that cannot be corrected in people’s lifetime.

Both of the writer and the lecturer explore that whether certification wood will work differently in the market to encourage sustainable forestry practices. The author lists three reasons to support its unsuccessfulness. The professor, on the contrary, believes the opposite situation that there are good reasons for more American wood company to seek certification wood for their products.

First, American consumers do not treat all the advertisements the same like it is described in the passage. Customers distinguish advertisement claims made by the company itself and independent certification agency. Moreover, American consumers are confident in independent certification agencies, stresses the speaker, therefore the ecologically minded consumers will react favorably to the agencies with international reputation and as well as their products. Consequently, this disproves its counterpart in the passage directly.

Moreover, it is declared by the professor that every one cares about the price. However, the point is that, price alone determines the choice of consumers when one competing price is much higher or lower than others. If the difference is less than five percent like the case of certification wood, people are influenced by factors other than price. Besides, more American consumers are now convinced about the value of protecting the environment. Accordingly, this is another place where experiences the contradicted theory.

At last, the speaker asserts that companies have to pay attention to the wood certification companies internationally. It is not the reason of foreign companies but foreign competitions. As the professor has said before, more consumers will be interested in the certification wood products in the future, if the companies are too slow to capture its customers, foreign companies will crowd into the market and offer the certification wood that is not provided by domestic companies.

In conclusion, the professor clearly identifies the weaknesses in the reading passage and convincingly shows that the central argument in the reading, certification wood will not create different influence to the sustainable forestry practice, is incorrect.
