这个不是那么固定吧。有的在第一句，也可能在第一段的中间、最后等等。

结论不一定在第一句哈~~这个要根据文章的逻辑结构进行case by case的判断哇~~^^~~

饭饭，我不太赞同你说得。我觉得
"whether women gained or lost status in the nineteenth century as compared with the eighteenth century" = the recent historiographical (HG) debate


原文说BB没有涉及这个HG debate，但L涉及到了。


这题定位在最后一句话的前半句：
"BB provides ... for questioning the myth, fostered by some historians, of a colonial golden age in the 18c"


"myth" is legend - something not necessarily true
this myth is hold by some historians
here it's "the myth of a colonial golden age in the 18c", meaning that: according to the myth, 18c (colonial era) is a good time (golden) for women


Therefore, choice (C): The colonial era was not as favorable for women as some historians have believed.

我觉得此处myth指代：“whether women gained or lost status in the nineteenth century as
compared with the eighteenth century. ”（此处引用原文，是从句部分，希望同学能够理解）。更进一步理解，觉得myth含义可以具体到：Women gained status in the nineteenth century as compared with the eighteenth century. 个人认为主要是对该历史观点的部分驳斥。

另外，前面的"in contrast" 主要是对两方研究人员的研究方法上的不同。
