帮忙看看我申请FINANCE PHD 有没有希望?

大家好,

我打算申请05年的Finace Ph.D, 因为我是改专业申请，看到网上说竞争很激烈, 所以心里没有底。特在这里把我的简单情况列出来，希望大家能给一点鼓励和建议，先说声谢谢了.

我的基本情况：

Undergraduate:

School: Non-Famous in China; Major: Physics;  GPA: 86/100

Graduate master 1:

School: Top Univ. in China, Major: Theoretical Physics; GPA: 87/100

Graduate master 2:

School: Top Univ. in Canada, Major: Experimental Physics; GPA: 4.0/4.3

Test: GRE: 2260(taken 3 years ago and no plan to take GMAT)

        TOEFL ~250(Just taken this month, dont know the score yet)

PAPAER : 4 first author physics research papers published in European and American TOP  Journals, All SCI papers.

I do not have any economics background(I only learn some basic economics by myself).

我想问问像我这样的情况能不能申请到Finance Ph.D 的offer. 另外什么样的学校比较适合我？我在做申请材料的时候应该注意什么？我主要担心我没有经济学背景，我9月想选一门经济学的课，但是我没有meet pre-requisites 而选不上，很郁闷。去旁听对申请好像也没有什么帮助。

希望大家能给一点建议，有没有和我类似情况的申请成功的？

你还是直接问想申请的学校吧。好象没有一点金融相关专业背景的比较难吧~~不过你要是直接与学校教授联系说不定有可能。一般都是要数学专业的，物理的不了解

虽然不清楚你读phd的目的是什么，但是大家都知道top finance phd不是一般的难申请。

如果你不抱着一辈子做faculty决心的话，再花5年的时间熬个phd去找工作也不一定占优。同样，直接去金融机构工作也能赚大钱。美国很多金融机构里的quant 都是物理数学的博士硕士啊。

但是进入那个行业也不容易啊, 您说的应该是因90年代初的情况了, 现在我们想进入都很难了.

不过我到是对研究比较感兴趣, 只是希望自己的研究对社会的用途更直接一点., 所以才想着转社会科学的. FINANCE 是我的首选.

但是我心里一点底都没有.

If you don't know finance, schools can teach you finance, whilest if you have no solid quantitative background, you may not get in the program.

cfpl, don't be hampered by lacking of finance idea, which is deadly esay and can be taught in three months given your math/phyiscs background.

Yes, I agree with what you said. The only thing that I care is that how I can be admitted to a finance ph.d program. I dont know if there is some one who has similar background as mine got finance offer recently.

But I still want to have a try, no matter how difficult it may be.

I suggest you to view the finance department's page. Most of the departments list the profiles of current students, which may include the CV, research interests etc. From their CVs, you may find their eduation background. As my experience, some of successful candidates do not own finance or economics related degree. (Obviously you can start from your university. Why not drop in the finance department of your school and ask for details?
