5月30日 2011.3.19 NA Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Movies and televisionhave more negative effects than positive effects on the way young peoplebehave. Duringthe past century witnessed the technology innovation like television and movieshas brought dramatic transformation in people's life. It is televisions andmovies that bring audience up-to-the-minutes information, wide varieties ofprograms to expand their outlooks and a significant of leisure activity torelive the stress from jobs and study. I firmly believe that TV and films bringa positive influence on the way of young people behave. TV andmovies provide up-to-the minute information, which enables young people to knowwhat’s going on the world. By watching news, such as CNN news, can satisfy yourcuriosity about the world, and make young people's mind more analytical andinsightful. Television shapes our understanding of what is important and whatis not important. Important news headlines inform us the critical informationthat even seemingly unrelated to our life. For example, the US war in Iraqseemed to have no connection with the lives of the taxi driver in Hong Kong. But the following wild fluctuations in the oilprice have definitely made them feel the influence. Therefore, watching TV andmovies can make young people more aware of the important issues around theworld. Anotherrationale for benefit of watching TV is that the wide-range programs can beused as supplementary teaching tools. TV and movies provide ample informativeinformation, from cooking to fashion, from history to geology and from cartoonto science. Many American students, once they get back home, the first thingthat they do be to turn on the television. Therefore, recommending to theirstudents informative TV programs that contain reflections on history, economy, science, or astronomy can really help teachers extend teaching into theirstudent`s leisure time. It is confirmed by researches in Stanford Universitythat kids who watch informative and educational shows as preschoolers tend towatch more instructive and enlightening shows when they get older. After all, they use television effectively as a complement to school learning.
Yetanother reason for the positive contributes of TV and movies can drive awaystress and pressures from study. Later on, they can get refreshing and boosttheir efficiency and focus on their studies. Nothing can be more relaxed thansitting on the couch and watching a funny drama. Admittedly, some people arguethat young people should spend their leisure time on some healthy activities, such as jogging, visiting museums, playing piano and so on, instead on being acouch potato. Of course, TV is a means for young people to relax, but I am ofthe point that youth should not be obsessed by TV. In anutshell, I still regard TV and movies as essential supplementary tool forstudent` s education, although it might bring a minor side effect. As long aswe keep a balance mood on TV and movies, they are sure to bring a positiveinfluence on young people. |
