Gun for the internship once you arrive in France. Good internship experience can outrun other factors (inculding school brandname) when it comes to recruiting.

In fact, more than 50% of finance students of top 5 Grande Ecole Commerciale in France (including Chinese) willl have chance to be interviewed by top banks (think Goldman，JPM, MS), some of them screwed it up, some of them made it into second round, some of them turned an interview into an internship, handful of them turned an internship into a fulltime job. So, rule of thumb is, don't let any chance pass, seize each one of them.

看过此贴，有种柳暗花明的感觉.
比较可惜的是，我在TOP5里被Derman提及最少的那一所o(╯□╰)o
现在有两个问题还是想单独请教一下Derman：
1，Derman之前有提到只有 FINANCE 方向的工作环境是英语，这里您是不是特指的quantitative finance方向呢, corporate finance还是会要求流利的法语水平吧? 我实在是不想进入一个从上班到下班基本上是在说法语的工作环境T  T.
2，因为一下子从第一页看到最后..我有点弄混淆了，Derman的意思是不是偏quantitative finance的岗位，像前台的trading、structure，中台的risk，比起M&A，工作时间会正常一点，是比较general 的lifestyle?

-_-#总的来说我偏好的是一个工作期间大家说的是英语、工作时间较为正常的工作环境，再加上我本科是学工科的。。。不知道quantitative finance是不是一个比较好的选择。

看见几个帖子里都在说quantitative finance的岗位基本是工程师学校的人，是个不小的打击啊T T

想听听DERMAN大哥的建议.,谢谢乃了！！！

关注这个帖子很久啦，想请问一下大大，目前学校有项目可以大四毕业一年后拿到法国第二梯队商学院的GE，但是自己又想努力准备一下上HEC,ESSEC等第一梯队的GE，大大认为这多花的时间（一年到两年）值得不值得呢？一年工作经验会比学校出身更重要吗？（能找到工作的前提下。。）

1. Even in corporate finance, there are still some jobs that use English a lot and ok with candidates with lower French level.
2. In non-IBD area, life style is better. Don't get me wrong, non-IBD =/= quantitative. Many desks like sales and linear products trading, math is not that important.
3. Quantitative finance related area should interest you. But, again, working on the trading floor doesn't necessarily mean it's highly quantitative. Cash stock or credit flow traders don't need math deeper than high school level, and for Sales (yes, there are way more sales people than traders on the floor), the way you talk, your english level and your background might be more important than your product knowledge.  And also, for some positions like Quant, general engineering background is not enough, you are expected to have MS/PhD in Math and Physics.

I would say it's good to make a bet. Again, it really depends on what job you do during the gap year (between college and graduate school). It would make big difference if you work for some legit depts in legit companies (multinationals....). Spending one year in a small company with no interesting story to tell will not make you look different.

可是Derman你不是本科文科，然后GE，之后去做Quant，并没有math的背景吗？

But I'm still a little confused about the comprehensive of IBD as you mentioned. What exact kinds of occupations does IBD include, M&A or some other ones ?

可能是我没有问得太清楚。。我很困惑的是，本科加法国二流商学院GE共五年然后开始工作与本科加法国一流商学院GE共六到七年再开始工作相比，这之间的机会成本能够用一流商学院的学识、人脉、实习经验来弥补吗？再次谢谢大大的回答哈。 The bet really makes the point!

Hi Derman, I have offers now, but I have no idea how to choose between them, list as below:
1. ESSEC MS Strategy and Management of International Business
   - Actually, I applied MSc in Finance for ESSEC. However, they rejected me as I don't have Biz or Econ background, then they recommend this SMIB program to me. Do you have any opinion on this program? I wish to have a finance related job after graduation. ESSEC said to me, I can choose finance track in 2nd-semester. But it seems that this SMIB program is not well recognized by employer.
2. EDHEC MSc in Finance
   - As you said, ESSEC > EDHEC, but the program of ESSEC is not ideal. In addition, EDHEC admit students without interview. So I am a bit worried about the quality of  the program.
Very difficult for me to decide, probably you have some ideas. Thanks for sharing with me!
