以下是引用甜橙在2004-8-31 6:29:00的发言:我也想读marketing,而且还想在美工作2~3年再回国,看babyface所言,marketing不是一个好选择。

Marketing is an interesting major, I'm very enjoying my study till now. If consider the job hunting situation, I may feel sad. But I don't want to give up my interest just for a job making a living. That's why I still struggle to find a way out.
The problem is if you are an international student, it's always difficult for you to find a job, no matter what major you are because of several reasons.
The first one is a national identity problem. The companies have to be able to and willing to apply an H1b visa for you if they want u to work for them. They will spend additional money for u by doing so. Thus, they may seek for American candidates or those who are green card holders. For many Chinese students coming USA just for 2 years' MBA study, their chances of getting a green card is slim. So is the job landing.
Language and culture maybe come as the 2nd problem. For the mojority Chinese students, fluent spoken English and the understanding of western culture are always difficult part to get through, which, unfortunately, usually takes more than 2 years to establish. Especially for marketing major Chinese students, presentation is a must. You have to speak as Americans do, be able to debate with them on some different point of views.
Although there's a lot of difficulties ahead of my career path, i don't want to give up. As marketing is my favorite area, i don't want to change to those concentrations not suitable for me. But to all of u still considering a concentration, you may count into your consideration that as a marketing major, you may not be able to get 2-3 years' working experience in America. Of course, it's not absolutely to be so. |
