Increasing the possibility of the conclusion stands or the credibilty of the conclusion is a way to support.

So, if the leg bone is long enough to add the missing note of 1.2 and 7 , then there possibility of the flute was a diatonic instrument would raise. option E is correct

题目第一句话The spacing of the four holes on a fragment of a bone flute excavated at a Neanderthal campsite is……  E选项 The cave-bear leg bone used to make the Neanderthal flute would have been …… 其中有used to make the Neanderthal flute来修饰 cave-bear leg bone ，其实就已经说明所指是同一个时期的了。

我也一直没想透，后来按照ASSUMPTION 的思路理解了下：因为"bone flute is required to play diatonic scale", 就是说bone flute是必要条件，但是SUPPORT需要充分条件嘛 就是由bone flute 推出 diatonic scale  ，so  "long enough"  acts as the tie. 我也没有完全理解 继续跟进楼主步伐~~

这么来理解吧，要论证在Neanderthal campsite挖出的骨笛碎片是可以演奏出完整diatonic scale乐器的一部分，才能得出原题的结论，否则这个碎片可以是其他任何乐器，和diatonic scale没有任何关系。
D选项即说明这个碎片有可能是完整演奏出diatonic scale乐器的一部分。
