the hypothesis of this passage:

B is irrelevant choice. No matter such musical instrument exists ot not, it can not effect on the conclusion that the diatonic musical scale was developed and used thousands of years before....

D is irrlevant either.The wrong is the same as B.No matter Flutes are the simplest wind instrument or not, it can not effect on the hypothesis.

E says such flute can be constructed in that time, so it support the hypothesis.

我觉得这更像一个假设的答案，笛子上孔的距离够了，不一定就能推出它能演奏那什么调，再补出一个必要条件，长度够长，就齐了。

明白了，是E，根据fragment上的距离只能推测整个flute或许可以演奏全阶乐谱什么的，E则说明整个flute（作笛子的腿骨）长度确实足够长。想了这么久才明白，差距啊。

only when the bone was origially long enough to be possible to settle the rest 3 missing holes(scales) can we reason from the four extisting holes that it should have been 7 scales firstly. so E is the key

E no doubt is the best answer.

Why B isn't?  You can try deny test.

Deny B, we get "Some musical instruments that are known to have used a diatomic scale are of an earlier date than the flute found at the Neanderthal campsite."  Does this weakens the original conclusion of the passage, "Musicologists therefore hypothesize that the diatonic musical scale was developed and used thousands of years before it was adopted by Western musicians."?  Obviously not.  It actually strengthens the conclusion.

Since the opposite of B strengthens the conclusion, B can not be a choice that strengthens the conclusion.
