1. earthquake and tsunami, the nuclear power plant. 2. the company was asked whether the earthquake itself damaged the nuclear plant. the report was not released until 9 weeks later. not even the prime minister was announced. 3. the whole country tries to scarce their energy use. companies cut electronic use by 15%. people start to work early or do night shift to save energy, etc. the public expect electronic shortage, though none happened. 4. TEPCO? is one of the ten regional monopolies whom provide 97% of the country's electicity. it supports one political party, funds researches. 5. japanese people are paying twice as much as Americans are, and 3 times as much as Koreans are. because of monopoly, the company has no intention of cutting cost. the energy cost is fixed by the government, if inflation(?) rise, their income rise (?). 6. even though japan is a leader in the green energy technology such as wind, solar power, green energy only comprise 1% of the usage. 7. japan should not rely soly on nuclear power. the high energy cost would force business to move out of the country. someone tries to build solar power system, however, going through the regulation is a nightmare.
