Which of the following most logically completes the argument below?

According to promotional material published by the city of Springfield, more tourists stay in hotels in Springfield than stay in the neighboring city of Harristown. A brochure from the largest hotel in Harristown claims that more tourists stay in that hotel than stay in the Royal Arms Hotel in Springfield. If both of these sources are accurate, however, the county's "Report on Tourism" must be in error in indicating that _______.

GWD6-Q28:
Which of the following most logically completes the argument below?
According to promotional material published by the city of Springfield, more tourists stay in hotels in Springfield than stay in the neighboring city of Harristown.  A brochure from the largest hotel in Harristown claims that more tourists stay in that hotel than stay in the Royal Arms Hotel in Springfield.  If both of these sources are accurate, however, the county’s “Report on Tourism” must be in error in indicating that _______.

A:  more tourists stay in hotel accommodations in Harristown than stay in the Royal Arms Hotel
B:  the Royal Arms Hotel is the only hotel in Springfield
C:  there are several hotels in Harristown that are larger than the Royal Arms Hotel
D:  some of the tourists who have stayed in hotels in Harristown have also stayed in the Royal Arms Hotel
E:  some hotels in Harristown have fewer tourist guests each year than the Royal Arms Hotel has

evidence 1: more tourists stay in hotels in Springfield than stay in Harristown.
evidence 2: more tourists stay in the largest hotel in Harristown than stay in the Royal Arms Hotel in Springfield.

If both evidences are true, which one of the following is false?
(B) is incorrect because there must be more than one hotel in Springfield.

这题我也错了,他问的很有歧义有木有?~什么叫“must be in error in stating that”?如果改成“must be error in stating that”不就皆大欢喜了么?

evidence 1: more tourists stay in hotels in Springfield than stay in Harristown.
evidence 2: more tourists stay in the largest hotel in Harristown than stay in the Royal Arms Hotel in Springfield

From the stimulus, we know two facts:
(1) More tourists stay in hotels in Springfield than in neighboring city Harristown
(2) The largest hotel in Harristown claims that more tourists stay in there than in the Royal Arms Hotel in Springfield

Both facts are true.  Then the stimulus says that "Report on Tourism" must be wrong by saying the blank (our answer choice).  Apparently the Report must have said something controdictory to the two facts we just learnt.

Answer choice (B), "the Royal Arms Hotel is the only hotel in Springfield" is correct answer to fill in the blank because if (B) is true, then Fact (2) is true but Fact (1) must be false.

According to the argument:
statement (1): tourists @ Springfield  >  tourists @ Harristown
statement (2): tourists @ the largest hotel in Harristown > tourists @ Royal Arms Hotel

Common sense: tourists @ Harristown > tourists @ the largest hotel in Harristown

If the county's "Report on Tourism" indicates that Royal Arms Hotel is the only one hotel in Springfield,

we can get: tourists @ Springfield = tourists @ Royal Arms Hotel

[PROVE 1]:

statement (1): tourists @ Springfield > tourists @ Harristown

Substitute [tourists @ Springfield] for [tourists @ Royal Arms Hotel]

Then, the statement (1'): tourists @ Royal Arms Hotel > tourists @ Harristown

Common Sense: tourists @ Harristown > tourists @ the largest hotel in Harristown

Combine the statement (1')  with our common sense:
tourists @ Royal Arms Hotel > tourists @ Harristown > tourists @ the largest hotel in Harristown

Therefore, tourists @ Royal Arms Hotel > tourists @ the largest hotel in Harristown

Conflict with statement (2): tourists @ the largest hotel in Harristown > tourists @ Royal Arms Hotel

[PROVE 2]:

statement (2): tourists @ the largest hotel in Harristown > tourists @ Royal Arms Hotel

Substitute [tourists @ Royal Arms Hotel] for [tourists @ Springfield]

Then, the statement (2') would become:  tourists @ the largest hotel in Harristown > tourists @ Springfield

According to our common sense: tourists @ Harristown > tourists @ the largest hotel in Harristown

Combine the statement (2')  with our common sense:
tourists @ Harristown > tourists @ the largest hotel in Harristown > tourists @ Springfield

We can get: tourists @ Harristown > tourists @ Springfield

Again, conflict with statement (1): tourists @ Springfield  >  tourists @ Harristown

SUMMARY:  If Royal Arms Hotel is the only one hotel in Springfield, either statement (1) or statement (2) must be false. #

What a tricky question!!
