我选的是A.   我当时也在AC之间, 犹豫了. 但是我后来认为: C表达的重心不对.  感觉A好像更贴近一点.  哎哟, 好像很难解释. MM 你哪里不通先告诉我.

又回忆了一下我当时的想法:

我的看法是:  整个这段是讲土壤的质地问题, 根据某个样本里面3个东东构成比例多少有所不同而不同. 特别是某几把具有代表性的样本.

C的侧重好像变成某个样本都需要由几把有代表性的土壤构成似的.  其实文章没有强调一定要几把啦. 而是说样本其实是有好几种是比较有代表性的.

唉, 不知道说清楚没.

而range of soil samples 的意思是 土壤样本的范围/种类

显然是不同的概念.  文中解释的是"怎样算是一个土壤样本", 而不是它的种类.

再进一步解释: 根据该文,  如果问你怎样才算是一个土壤样本, 你知道它要符合的条件是(requirements):

1. representative  有代表性的该种土壤(被研究对象)

2. several handfuls 几把就可以了.

如果要谈样本的种类嘛..  就会讲到自然采集型的, 样本生成型的, 什么乱七八糟的等等..

I think "typically several representative handfuls" modifies "particles in a soil sample", not "a soil sample".  The last three lines offered additional hints in this direction.

If so, probably A is a little better than C (although I like neither).  The passage does not specifically mention "requirement" for sample.  The word "range" can mean "GROUP [C, usually singular] a number of things which are all different, but of the same general type [+ of]"  (source: Longman), so, A could be a right answer.

I don't think so. Some particles are even invisible to human eyes. How can they be described as "handfuls"?

As to the requirements, I think I'm quite clear as above.

And lastly, "several handfuls" cannot be understood as a "range" whatsoever. It is only about quantity.
