这道题讨论了很久但始终没个结论.今天我请教的我的英语语法老师,a native English speaker and has been working as an English grammar teacher for 20+ years at one of the best public school districts in the U.S., 以下是她给我的结论:

The correct answer is E for the following reasons:

1. The novel, Cane by Jean Toomer, is the subject of the sentence. Therefore, in the second part of the sentence, which starts with "the others", the "others" should also be novels (not people).

2. Each book was written by a single individual, not by a group. Therefore, it should be "written by a Black American" rather than "by Black Americans".

3. In addition, answer E does a nice job of listing all three books in a consistent way. (i.e. "Jean Toomer's Cane". "Richard Wright's Native Son", Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man")

我希望今天该是draw a conclusion的时候了.

要记住 one of... the others being... 这个 idiom

几本书都是只有一个作者的，所以 written by a black American 也是成立的说。虽然开始我也觉得 by black Americans 要好点。

今天做到了这个题，新PREP，答案选E

以前做过GWD，选的B，答案正确就没再管，结果发现。。。。

确实是看到being排除，但再看看发现including表示前面整句对后面的影响，似乎不大合适，所以用了the others ,意思至上。。。

还有就是前面的a Black American还是不懂是怎么回事。。。暂且记住。。。祭奠我的being

怎么是一个作者呢？前边是一个作者，后面两本也不是一个啊

这道题请教了教GMAT的老师，她说选E比较好，black americans 和 a black american 是ETS用来欺骗大家的，其实连个都正确，做这道题的时候不要看这个地方，重点在破折号之后，主语是一本小说，按照逻辑，后面提到的也应该是小说，所以A，C就不对了。B不好的理由在于它引起歧义，including可以理解为Cane这本书包含了另外两本书，而且E是非常完美的对称。

个人解释，希望能对最终定论有帮助；当然也欢迎继续质疑，然后我继续去郁闷老师~

including 的用法错误，它一般用于不完全的列举，而这道题是吧三本书全列举出来了，如ron（Manhattangmat的大牛）的分析
'including' is a problem as well, for two reasons:

1 - the sentence gives an exhaustive list, so 'including' is inappropriate. 'including' is only appropriate in sentences giving a PARTIAL list; complete lists are prefaced by other words, such as 'namely'.

2 - from a purely grammatical standpoint, the sentence is ambiguous: according to the usual interpretation of participial modifiers, it allows the possibility that Cane itself includes the other two books mentioned. (this interpretation is of course ridiculous, but the meaning of a sentence must be grammatically unique without appealing to common sense.)
