14. 我做的时候选了D，但看了上面的讨论，又反复地读了句子，觉得应该还是A。大家有没有觉得was conical in shape和was banked with不平行？前面是形容词结构，后面是被动形式的动词结构呢。

同意14选A ,不能选D. 因为 主句结构为,house was conical in shape,(后面的是独立主格结构) its framwork of poles overlaid...  我记得独立主格结构只能出现在句末或者句首,如果选择D.那么中间这个its framework of poles名词短语,就是夹杂在两个谓语动词之间, was conical, and was banked.那么这个名词短语在语法上能做什么成分呢?插入语做同位语?--好像只有这一个解释吧,但是这样逻辑不通的.

因此只能选择A.独立主格结构, 名词短语,-ed 分词,and -ed分词. 是否同意?

但是有一个疑问. D,为什么不对?

The second part you mentioned is not a sentence but an absolute phrase. Because it lacks a auxilary verb "was" before the past perfect "overlaid"....

why d ) is not resonable?

1. 分析句子, height of three to four feet 是指 framework of poles 's height

2. if  it is granted that 'height'是指 'house' instead of 'poles'; then it is better to put 'its framework of poles overlaid with slabs of bark' in the end of the sentence to avoid ambiguous.

therefore, a) is a little bit better.....请大家讨论....
