我没有什么权威语法书在手边，不能确认。不过的确记得上学的时候是这么教的。哪位NN好心也可以确认一下。

我自己对系动词的理解是这样的, grow本身是一个实义动词, 其含义是“生长”，“发育”。实义动词自然不能用在系表结构。但是，grow又可以表达一个变化的趋势，用作虚动词，就可以用在系表结构里了。

应该是 D.   

A) include the animal known as the killer whale, which can grow to be 30 feet long and is  就是说所有whale都长这么长, 没有最长长到30 feet long 之意了.

而 D as big as 30 feet long 就完全表达了最长可达 30 feet,   偶觉得as big as 是完全可以的, 不需要用 as long as 30 feet long, 这样很别扭的.  请指教...

I choose D.

A: "grow to be 30 feet long" awkward.

E: "it" is redundant.

D: "as big as ..." phrase modifies grow, grammatically correct.

单独看2个句子，我觉得A和D都没有问题。但在原句中强调的是grow渐进的过程，重心在grow，而D中as big as将重心转移到了big这个状态上来。原句没有big的状态描述。big是添加的，会改变句子的原来意思。

但grow 30 feet 和grow to be 30 feet，意思不一样。长了30英尺和长到30英尺。
