share some of my humble experience, from hiring point of view, trading houses are quite alike hedge funds, as physical commodity is quite a niche market, its demand is very well supplied by the "industry people", moving between shops. Unlike the majors, who have been giving a proper training platform and willing to invest into education, trading houses expect you to have relevant working experience and can be hands on immediately; and even they provide, the training will be very much to the work itself; while the enormous fundamental knowledge, oil for instance. refinery, supply and demand by region and by country, shipping market is not being taught, new birds will have to gone through a VERY TOUGH way of self-learning, and for us we all know, working environment is not as friendly as CD;

glencore全球才2000多人。做大宗商品,Goldman更多地只是broker,glencore才是真正的主角,他们因为做实体贸易,所以对价格走势的预判会更准。而且实力强大。Vitol在油价130、140美金时反手做空,放的空单相当于中国1年的原油进口量。

在这种纸货、现货通吃,金融资本、资源和政治影响力无所不有的大鳄面前,goldman只能算二流吧。

Trafigura has got trainee program but not very openly recruited, and most trading houses are recruited on a referral approach, from insiders. If you are so much interested in commodity trading, why not try majors first, BP Shell Chevron, BP used to have an extraordinary 3 yrs Challenger Program which could lead you the way to trading or other aspects of physical and paper trading, ie. physical operator, blender; Shell have a similar one but not so much dedicated to trading, rather as a general graduate program and both are open to public, not so secretive as trading houses ones. The Junior Oil Trader programme is aimed at candidates who have already gained a level of trading experience (1-3 years) from a commodity or financial environment and are ready to accelerate their careers within a physical energy and metals trading environment.
Trafigura trades commodities, such as crude oil, refined products, concentrates and refined metals and provides the ships and facilities to store and transport them. Physical trading is a long-term business. Investment in and access to key physical assets around the world is central to our business model. Management of ships, storage tanks, mines and other logistical assets gives us a business advantage while demonstrating our commitment to the territories in which we operate. With a turnover of US$ 79 billion in 2010 we operate in offices in 44 countries across the globe trading over 2 million barrels a day of crude and oil products and over 9 million tons of concentrates and refined metals per annum.

Before entering a front-line commercial role, candidates are exposed to the Trafigura business model trough a 1 year training programme designed to ensure the fastest possible time to productivity and guarantee long term career potential: 6 months in Deals: understanding how pricing exposure is managed using derivative products, the valuation and  reporting of business using mark to market, the construction of forward curves and cost structures  associated with a physical deal; and 6 month in Ops/Traffic: coordinating all shipping/logistics in order to effect the trade smoothly and successfully while minimising risks and maximising profit.

楼上说说trader是不是和其它公司的sales类似?

commodity公司会允许中间人介绍业务吗?
