I think your chance at chicago and mit is slim, but you can definitely try wharton and stanford, although the chance is not high either. But I do think you have fair chance at kellogg, duke, usc, berkeley.

但accounting phd program的排名和b-school总体排名也不是很一样吧？我现在已经搞不太清楚大家都看什么排名了。。。？就只能自己喜欢和研究方向比较对口的学校都申吧~

Thanks. the school information is important because it gives a sense of how strong the b-school faculties there are, and how much they can push you.

In this case, given your b-school is not super strong, I would apply to schools across top20 (given you have at least one chaired professor supporting eagerly supporting you), and a few back ups. I am not exactly sure how competitive accounting is compared to finance (which is the field I pursue), but this is what I would do if I were in your shoes.

你们网站上可是写的是dichev是acc phd program的director，那个老太太是整个phd program的吧。

呵呵，dichev就这样的被一个小本无情的鄙视了。这么说吧，你的那个老太太一辈子发的paper的citation加到一起，都没有人家dichev一篇paper的citation多，而且我说的还不是他citation最多的那篇paper。

Dichev?他没有很牛吧~才来了一个学期~是来顶原来一个prof的位置的。。。
上学期刚上完他的课~感觉一般。。。人也不是很approachable
Rajgopal也只来了一年。。。听说人不错~不过他不教undergrad所以没机会认识~
他们俩都不管phd program~
phd主要是pownall在管~kertz好像也take turn~

为什么要是from澳大利亚或者台湾？
我跟着做research的prof是美国人。。。这个有关系吗？
她自己是chicago毕业的~我现在就专心好好跟着她干吧。。。

what i was talking about applying more means applying more top schools. I think she will have good chance in top 10 if the "she" she mentioned is either from Australia or Taiwan. But sometimes, luck is more important.

你这背景和你这个professor讨论一下吧，
如果她在圈内很有名又愿意大力推荐你，就申Chicago, Wharton, MIT，Stanford和Kellogg最多加你们本校保底（如果你们学校不在其中）其他的根本不用。

我还没有和我跟着做research的教授谈过关于选校的事情。
她负责我们自己学校的accounting phd招生。。。所以我不知道和她讨论这个合不合适。。。
下次meet的时候问问她~要是她能基本保证我进我们学校的program~那我就安心多了。。。

没啥不好意思的，教授如果愿意帮你写推荐信，当然希望你能申请上，能理解你投很多所学校的心情。

至于保底学校，最好找教授。有的教授会和一些学校招生的教授比较熟悉，用那些学校保底。我个人觉得保底学校不能少于三所。

emory的acc phd在dichev和rajgopal去之前基本属于不怎么入流的，起码根他本科排名差了10万8千里。现在好多了，但是reputation也不是一天能建成的，所以如果能有acc phd top 20的offer，那肯定是要比留在emory好的。

你当然可以试chicago了，这就是我说的多伸，运气很重要，不过你想试chicago是因为你那个老太太是那毕业的，就没啥意义了。

或者你可以问问dichev和rajgopal他们心里的phd program排名，这个比dallas的那个还是靠铺多了， paper发的多不见得被faculty认为是好学校。
