我觉得作者并没有提到其他编辑具体犯了什么错误。

这题我当时也选错啦选了D。。。。仔细一个个想：
A 比较好排除： his own text is guilty of equally serious distortions：equally serious distortion 明显不对。
C:virtually any attempt at editing it must run counter to her intentions：must run counter明显也不是结论。作者只是指出JOHNSON自己也有弱点，没说DICKINSON的东西无法以正确的形式被表达出来。
D: 不是很有把握。如果一定要说错的话，只能理解为他的STUDY并没有LACK sufficient thoroughness, 只是DECIPHER方面，标点的使用违背了DICKINSON的本意？请NN们指点了。
E: failed to deal adequately with the problem of deciphering Dickinson’s handwritten manuscripts的是JOHNSON, 没有说其他EDITOR也是犯同样的错误。
