关于H1-B 换成F-1的问题

如果目前是用h1-b签证，从公司辞职后是不是马上要离开美国呢？回中国签F1，will your work experience before works against you?

你可以在辞职之前申请转签证，不过时间稍长：2-3个月
很多朋友都是开车（从boston）到加拿大，2-3天就够了。
现在回国签也很容易的，就是回去一次飞机时差挺辛苦的，时间和开销都是最大的

Step 1: Apply to Univ & Get I20

Step2: contact ISS office of Univ where you will go to see if you have special requirement for you.

Step3. File I539 to USCIS by yourself or ISS on the behalf of yours. It may take three months.

If you have enough time, it's the easiest way

谢谢！就是说可以去加拿大转签证？那要等到status changed to F1 以后吗？I heard you can stay in the US to wait to status changed to F1, and then go back to China to get a F1 visa . Or, going back to China directly and change the status and receive visa stamp at the same time. Can I do the latter in Canada?

I think nocturnlw is correct, you can update your status here without landing outside states. Well, of course, if you do want to have that shinning VISA stamp, you may want to go the 3rd country; but it is legitimate to update in States and go to school. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong. btw: send an email to USCIS to get the most updated info and we will appreciate your updates later.

For F1 to H1, you do not have to leave States, right? So why you have to do it now? Just my 2cents

you don't need leave US to get legitimate visa to stay in US: I539 would work

If you need F-1 visa stamp on your passport (in case you need to travel outside US and get back to US), you can go to 3rd country or China to get it.

these 2 visa are different: 1st is for staying in US, 2nd is for entering US.

我倾向于在美国转身份，因为MBA都是贷款，我担心学生签证会出问题。
