Newitems developed for automobiles in the 1997 model year included a safer airbag, which, unlike previous air bags, eliminated the possibility that a burstof smoke would appear when the bag inflated, and making an already terrifiedpassenger think the car was on fire.
A.     inflated, and making
B.     inflated, so that it could make
C.     inflated and made
D.    inflated and make
E.     inflated to make（应该可以确认，我9月份考过此题）

appear和make共用一个would
and表示合理的先后关系 只有烟先appear 才会make乘客恐慌
这种情况，一看A的提示（也是and），二看make这个动作的主语smoke能不能做 都OK的话 D应该没问题（感谢jenny1989提供分析过程）


如果是inflated to make的话，让人们觉得着火的就成了bag了，而逻辑上应该是smoke让人们觉得着火了。所以应该是bag 产生了smoke，然后是smoke让人们觉得着火。觉得答案还是D。GWD给的E。

我觉得是D诶，to make感觉表示目的了，and是先后发生的情况，不知道对不对

可为啥GWD答案是E啊，捶地~前面不是有TX发了贴说E对吗？咋不解释下呢，纠结

when the bag inflated是一个状语提前，其实应该是：eliminated the possibility that would appear to make....when the bag inflated;也就是appear to do的搭配~~~因为我觉得如果appear和make并列的话，make的逻辑主语变成了smoke，有问题。不能说是smoke是施动者，让人以为着火，应该是smoke的出现，让人觉得着火了~~~

可是a burstof smoke 要怎么被跳过啊？

按四楼的说法appear 这里作 link verb:显得, 似乎
smoke appear to make, 显得是让乘客觉得着火

实际上我觉得appear这里是实义动词:出现, 显现
smoke appear and make .
