官方解释：

The second statement is not itself offered as an explanation of why these bank executives are investing in the bank;if it were ,That would mean that the bank executives are doing so because corporate executives are known to do such things in a calculated effort to dispel worries.Furthermore the argument doesn't conclude that this other explanation(which the boldfaced portion points to)is correct,only that the one inferred by depositors may not be.

官方解释：

我觉得boldface体很关键的是要分清楚evidence 和 conclusion.  如果是conclusion, 一般是在passage里面找得到相应的evidence来支持的或反对的。

先来看哈官方解释： 第二个statement 自身并没有解释为什么exe. 没有投资银行。就算第二个statement是一个解释，它也是在说这这些 bank executives 这样做（投资银行）是因为cop. exe. 做这些事情就是为了消除大家的担忧。 另外， 这个argument没有得出这个解释是正确的结论，只是表达depositor得出的结论也许是不对的。  

其实官方解释就是在说第二个statement根本就不是在解释什么，也不是什么的解释。 就是提供了一个evidence， 而这个evidence 对depositor的结论提出了质疑。  ----->  updated understanding:  The official guaid is trying to say that the second statement does not explain "why these bank executives are investing in the bank", but explain why "Such reasoning might well be overoptimistic".  

再看哈原题：

(conclusion 1) Such reasoning might well be overoptimistic (conclusion 2), however, since corporate executives have been known to buy shares in their own company in a calculated attempt to dispel negative rumors about the company’s health （evidence 2）.

在读题的时候就分清楚哪些是evidence，哪些是conclusion. 这样就容易理清每句话之间的关系了。 conclusion 1是从evidence 1得出来的。 conclusion 2在质疑conclusion 1.  evidence 2 给出了质疑的理由。

为什么第二个划线 部分是evidence而不是explanation,我觉得它做解释也说得通，第二处划线部分解释作者为什么认为过分乐观，原因在于银行高层想驱散谣言.
是不是我解释和证据 不分？还望指教，谢谢

evidence 2 could be viewed as an explanation, however only as an explanation for conlcusion 2,"Such reasoning might well be overoptimistic", not for the first boldface statement, " why these bank executives are investing in the bank".   Answer D tries to say the second boldface statement is an explanation for  the first boldface statement.  

Sorry I guess myself was confused in my previous post, #6.

刚才不能输中文。 重起了一下。@_@   我觉得evidence也已作为explanation，但关键是要理清楚其explain的是什么？ 是在explain 另一个evidence 还是conclusion。 而且，我有把逻辑passage里面的每句话的function 强行简化为两类，一类是evidence，另一类是conclusion。 同时把每句话的态度分为两种：支持和反对。这样做是为了在读题的时候就强行理清楚每句话之间的逻辑关系。  这种做法确实有点一刀切的感觉， 但是对于做Boldface题型还是很有用的。
