想问下GT的问题,HAAS的平均分和range都很高,而本人只有可怜的700和96分...如果要重考的话只能赶第三轮了,能否给个建议?

I have another question in mind today.
I think each B-school has its "personality", what is Haas's personality, especially how Haas differentiate itself with Stanford.  I think Haas adcom will always have this question in mind:
does this guy also apply for Stanford? If Stanford admit this guy, will he/she still come to Haas? What is Haas's uniqueness that no other top B-school does not have at all?

Haas要把所有成绩加起来取平均数，可是那些体育什么的，选修课分数很低的话，这样就把GPA拉下来很多。
这可怎么办好呢？

呵呵，Haas 和 Stanford 还是很不一样的，最大的区别是一个是公立学校，一个是私立学校吧。其实这种风格、文化上的差异，很难一下子说清楚，我就简单谈一点自己的个人感受吧，所以先声明一下，仅仅是自己的个人感受。


我们 Haas 的 Dean Rich Lyons 经常提到的 Haas characteristic 和 culture 包括：


1.  “Place , People, Culture”.


2.  “Confidence without attitude” （我觉得可以翻译成 “自信不自傲” ）


3.  “Influence without authority”




Place 指靠近旧金山，硅谷。


People：申请Haas MBA的人可能注意到了，Haas的 full-time MBA progam 非常小，每年都大概只招 240 个Full Time MBA，所以很多申请Haas的人可能担心校友网络会不会比较小。但实际上，我觉得我们的 Haas  full-time MBA progam 同时有小Progam比较close的优点，也有大progam校友网络强大的优点。


为什么这么说呢？首先，Haas的 full-time MBA progam 的确是非常小，所以同学之间的联系比较亲密和紧密， tightly knitted,  在文化上是比较 supportive and collaborative culture.


但同时， Haas 不止有 full-time MBA program，还有很多其他 program. 光是能颁发正式学位的 program 就有这么几种：
 MBA degree 有三种： full-time MBA,  Evening & Weekend MBA Program（每年也是250人左右）, Berkeley-Columbia Executive MBA Program（略少一点每年200多人）.
 Master degree 还有一种 Master of Financial Engineering Program .
 此外还有 PhD Program 和 Undergraduate Program.


这些degree毕业的人都是 Haas 校友，alumni office 是把所有这些 program 的人都联系的。所以把所有这些 program 加在一起，Haas 商学院的校友网络就不算小了。


而且，总体上 Haas 的这些 program 近年来在很多排名里面稳中有升。
Haas Undergraduate program 在最新的 U.S. News Best Undergraduate Business Programs 2010 ranking 排到了第二名。
Haas Full-time MBA program 在Economist 2009 ranking 排到全美第一名，全世界第三名；在 The Wall Street Journal ranking 排到全美第二名。
Haas Evening/Weekend MBA rankings 在 BusinessWeek 里面的 part-time MBA ranking 排到全美第三名。


顺便提一下，今年的经济学诺贝尔奖得主是 Haas 的教授 Oliver E. Williamson，呵呵。


而且，这还没算上整个 UC Berkeley 的校友呢。关于 UC Berkeley, 很强的一点是 UC Berkeley ranks first nationally in the number of graduate programs in the top 10 in their fields, according to the most recent National Research Council study. 2. Entrepreneurship （Tech & Entrepreneurship 得益于地理位置，就近硅谷，大批校友在 hi-tech 公司，Haas 设置多年的相当出名的 MOT (Management of Technology) program，还有 Haas在 entrepreneur 方面有专门的 Lester Center，有每年的 business plan competition 活动）
3. Real Estate
4. Global Management（例如 Haas 有非常好的一个项目叫做 IBD : International Business Development Program，这个 program 是 extremely popular with MBA students）
5. Health Care （这大概得益于同样在 San Francisco 的加州大学系统的另一个分校 University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) 的排名很好的医学和医疗卫生研究学科）
6. Social Responsibility
7. Nonprofit & Public Management （ Haas 的 Social impact, non-profit, CSR 的气氛非常浓， CSR 方面有专门的研究中心 Center for Responsible Business，Nonprofit 在 Haas 也有专门的 Center for Nonprofit and Public Leadership，有 Global Social Venture Competition 等等）

请问关于推荐信得问题

我在HAAS 的网站上看到可以电子邮件或者邮寄推荐信。

但是网上提供了邮寄时候的需要回答的问题PDF，可以使电子邮件写推荐信得话，PDF 的文件没有办法编辑啊。

我不知道请我的推荐人用什么格式来回答了。

还有推荐人是先在ONLINE 申请时候写下推荐人的联系方式，然后学校发邮件给他们要推荐信吗？

不是推荐人自己直接写邮件给相关邮箱吗？

Berkeley的风格是非常liberal, 知道的一个berkeley graduate和他的中国女朋友会对一些敏感问题有serious fights，想请问中国学生到那边可以很好的适应这种风格么

我不是清华北大复旦交大，也没有很牛的工作背景，虽然知道机会渺茫，还是想斗胆一试。将会申请12/10日的R2。

UC Berkeley的要求:
Graduates of non-US institutions must also provide one official degree certificate in the original language, along with a certified English translation. Scans of official transcripts, degree certificates and translations, in PDF format may be uploaded using the online application.

certified English translation degree certificate指的是需要公证过的吗? 还是自己翻译了找学校盖章就行了？
