Researchers hypothesize that granitic soil is the ideal construction

material for the desert tortoise because it is not so hard that it makes
burrowing difficult or so soft that it could cause
tunnels to collapse.

     A.    so hard that it makes burrowing difficult or so soft that it could

cause

B. hard enough to make burrowing difficult or soft enough as to cause

C.    so hard as to make burrowing difficult or soft enough so it causes

D.    as hard as to make burrowing difficult or as soft as to cause

      E.    too hard, making burrowing difficult, nor too soft, so as to cause

我选了E(大家别笑我,选的时候我也觉得这个有点残疾,只不过看上去稍微好一点,A里面那么多指代,本能的被我排除了),答案是A

 3. GWD25-Q3.

Mel: The official salary for judges has always been
too low to attract the best candidates to the job. The legislature’s move to
raise the salary has done nothing to improve the situation, because it was
coupled with a ban on receiving money for lectures and teaching engagements.

Pat:  No,
the raise in salary really does improve the situation. Since very few judges
teach or give lectures, the ban will have little or no negative effect.

Pat’s response to Mel is inadequate in that it

A.
attempts to assess how a certain change will affect potential members

of a group
by providing evidence about its effect on the current members.

B.
mistakenly takes the cause of a certain change to be an effect of that
change

C.
attempts to argue that a certain change will have a positive effect
merely by pointing to the absence of negative effects

D.
simply denies Mel’s claim without putting forward any evidence in
support

of that denial

E.
assumes that changes that benefit the most able members of a group

necessarily
benefit all members of that group.

Two fresh one from the yesterday.

Prep Test1

26.        (25911-!-item-!-188;#058&002160)

The investigations of many psychologists and anthropologists support the generalization of there being little that is a significant difference in the underlying mental processes manifested by people from different cultures.

(E) x

(A) of there being little that is a significant difference

(B) of there being little that is significantly different

(C) of little that is significantly different

(D) that there is little that is significantly different

(E) that there is little of significant differences

33.        (26233-!-item-!-188;#058&002541)

More than 300 rivers drain into Siberia's Lake Baikal, which holds 20 percent of the world's fresh water, more than all the North American Great Lakes combined.

(A) More than 300 rivers drain into Siberia's Lake Baikal, which holds 20 percent of the world's fresh water, more than all the North American Great Lakes combined.

(B) With 20 percent of the world's fresh water, that is more than all the North American Great Lakes combined, Siberia's Lake Baikal has more than 300 rivers that drain into it.这里正是我昨天说的with放在句首的短语其逻辑主语要和主句主语有正当联系 with 20 percent of the world's fresh water的逻辑主语是Siberia's Lake Baikal而不应该是that is...with和真正主语隔的太远了 that裸奔

(C) Siberia's Lake Baikal, with more than 300 rivers draining into it, it holds more of the world's fresh water than all that of the North American Great Lakes combined, 20 percent.

(D) While more than 300 rivers drain into it, Siberia's Lake Baikal holds 20 percent of the world's fresh water, which is more than all the North American Great Lakes combined.

(E) More than all the North American Great Lakes combined, Siberia's Lake Baikal, with more than 300 rivers draining into it, holds 20 percent of the world's fresh water.

这里没有必要改变句子重心 原句强调more than 300 rivers drain into lake 而剩下的内容都是为了来补充说明此lake水量多么大 而此选项却强调了lake holds 20 percent of the world's fresh water这一个事情

Media is plural too.

B.
that a black hole lies at the Milky Way’s center and

that there is a black hole lying at the milky Way’s center and

D.
