Master of Real Estate Application

I wanna apply a master programme in real estate.

My profile are as follows: GPA 2.7-2.8 in BEng Civil Engineering from HKU

                                        GPA 3.7 (A- in overall) in MSc Mathematics (Financial Mathematics and Statistics-Full Time) from        HKUST

GRE 1350 (Quant 800, Verbal 550).

I have two years of working experience as an assistant civil engineer and one year of working experience as a credit risk analyst in a mortgage security firm.

I would like to apply the following programmes

1. Columbia MS Real Estate Development

2. .NYU MS Real Estate

3. University of Reading MSc Real Estate Investment and Economics

4. LSE MSc Real Estate Economics and Finance

Note, I have got offer from U of Reading, MSc in Surveying (Majoring in Real Estate) and HKU MSc in Real Estate (General Practice)

Any recommendation or advice?

And I wanna ask if there is any advantage if I have a MHKIS/MRICS in QS/GP for application?

In my opinion, MRICS/MHKIS is much stronger than master degree. Some applicants pursue HKU's msc to gain the recognized education level to apply for the said membership.

Have you got the qualification before taking msc course? If so, I believe it'll advance your application.

I had worked as a credit risk analyst for mortgage securitization, but I just got laid off and I wanna move from financial industry to real estate and construction industry later.

On the other hand, do you think the qualification of MRICS/MHKIS would further equip me to get admission offer from Columbia, LSE, Reading or NYU?

Personally, I prefer the master degree from Columbia as the course structure is more diversed and the brand name of Columbia is great.

and I am thinking which stream in surveying will be better in future.....(QS or GP???)

PS. I have got the admission offer of the programme of HKU MSc Construction Project Management (Majoring in QS and Dispute Resolution)

What's more, what do you think about the recognition of master of surveying at University of Reading and master of real estate at HKU?

a professional designation such as MRICS will definitely have positive effact on your application, but I doubt "MRICS/MHKIS is much stronger than master degree".hee..hee...

Reading is a big name in RE industry especially in Europe, but LSE or Cambridge is better in my opinion.

On the other hand, what do you think about the prospect of "Cost Engineer/Quantity Surveyor" in real estate & infra-structure construction section?

It seems that the 4,000 Billion RMB will be a huge investment on infra-structure projects.

I am thinking the position of "Cost Engineer plus Property Investment analyst" for my future career development.

What's more, what do you think about the recognition of RICS and HKIS? Are they the same in industry recognition? or RICS > HKIS?

I don’t know much about quantity survey as I have only some 3 years experience with concentration in GP. But qualified quantity surveyors are still on demand for sure.

 

HKIS was the local association of RICS in HK before 1997, but they have reciprocal agreement now.

Your topic just is what i want to talk with, cos currently i am in the APC programme which is RICS graduate pathway towards chartered quantity surveyor, in order to meet RICS academic requirement, i have to enroll reading university Msc in surveying which start from April this year. What I want to discuss with your guys is how much advantage in the career development once qualify from MRICS in the construction or real estate industry?

Anybody knows the difference between MRICS and MCIOB?
