some people send the email to ask questions, and I just post here for sharing..
questions: if appropriate may I have some info regarding your plan after graduation from Kelley? Usually what is the job placement for those students in Entrepreneurship Academy?
answers:
Well, that’s a good question. As the director of Entrepreneurial Management Academy has said, only 1 or 2 students will set up his own company right after graduation. But most of students who have the entrepreneurial dream will fulfill after working three to five years because by the time they will have paid up their debt and have network.
Regarding job placement, it varies from person to person but I think some will seek for jobs in non-profit organization and most of them will just find a marketing or finance job.
2) My career focus is consulting & entrepreneurship. Which professors would you rate the best among students in these areas? Same question to the related selective courses.
3) Regarding the Academy, I treat it as another great shine of Kelley. I guess dear MBA2010 class should have already attended the Week#1 and be doing Week#2 soon. May I have some more info regarding what activities were you and will you be thrown into?
answers:
Regarding question #1, I think the director of Entrepreneurship Management Academy, Dr. Kuratko, has earned enormous appreciation in the field. Besides that, Johnson center can serve as a great resource that you can turn to whenever you have any idea.
Question#2, for the first intensive week, we invited many guest speakers mostly from Indiana to give speech about various topics from entrepreneurial experience to legal issues. We also had a field day to Indianapolis to visit companies and conducted a panel with their founders. As far as the second intensive week, we will have 2-4 students to undertake a real-life project and help conduct a marketing strategy for a start-up company. Of course, each group will be assigned different projects. The project will be finished before the start of 2nd intensive week and during the intensive week, we are going to Berkeley CA. to attend a panel and visit companies over there.
Like Tao said, you do have a strong background and you should have confidence about getting fellowship. As far as full scholarship you should have your hopes up; although, I’m not sure about the timing. Most of the people I know got their full tuition scholarship for their application in the first two rounds. But you never knowJ. Best wishes!
A little about myself in case you might want to know: PhD in chemical physics and a little bit more than 2 yrs work experience in a start-up company(telecom,high-tech). Application submitted for the second round and luckily got the Dean’s fellowship. Reason for Kelley: 1, family reason; 2, Kelley’s collegial environment.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yes, I do think so. In our 2010 class I know that 13 Dean’s fellowship and ~6 Forte women fellowship who get full tuition waiver. So 67 sounds a bit higher than I thought. Maybe some people not only have fellowship but also GA work which add up to full tuition scholarship.
From what I heard Top programs have much fewer Full tuition waiver, very rare actually.
感兴趣的MBA项目是在Healthcare,Bio-tech或医疗方向。
~~~~~~~~~~~~ yes I agree with Tao that Kelley do have some good connections with healthcare, pharmaceutical companies such as Lily and Pfizer, etc.I’m not sure if Roche is on the recruiting list of Kelley; you can check it out through Kelley’s website, I believe.
As you might have heard, the thing you need to watch out is working visas/permanent residency issue for foreign students. If you have a green card, life would be much better for you in case you want to work in the States. Well, again, anything is possible. You never know unless you try.
同时欢迎建议下有可能申请到奖学金的学校,尤其现在提交申请已经算很晚了。
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To be honest, I’m not sureL.I didn’t do much research on that.
Hopefully, I addressed all your concerns. If not, just shoot me another email.
Good luck on your application!
(Btw, think hard on why you want to go for MBA. It will be helpful all the way along your MBA course: what to study, which firm I want to work for, what kind of connections I want to build, etc)
