我觉得E的意思是Electra不是每次出现在现存的中世纪手稿中都伴随有评论。因为L的手稿中Electra没有评论。

感觉这个题在短时间内做出，就是找一些典型特点的关键词。
1 A medieval manuscript 有很多类，但是文中重点讨论的 extant medieval manuscript 总共只有18本。
2 其中10本 select play，都有 commentary，同时在其他非extant medieval manuscript 出现过。
3 10本里有些best known，其中之一是M
4 另外8本都是没commentary，alphabetical order，其中有E。
A 只有 best known是有commentary，错。看2，应该是10本都有评论，其中有best known。把only换成some就可能对了。
B 文中只说10本sp的有评论，没提原因。
C 在古代，关于E作品没有评论介绍。联系1，4，文章只说在extant medieval manuscript 范围内的8本（E属于8本之一）是无commentary的，那古代非extant medieval manuscript的里面可能有commentary。
D M从来没有出现在那些没commentary的medieval manuscripts里。注意这个选项没说是extant的。但是文中的范围是在extant里面，M是有commentary，也就是没出现在无commentary那类里。
E 完全正确，首先限定在18本extant medieval manuscript里，E作品是无commentary的，也就是没有出现在有commentary那类里。

这道题少条件，，prep原题里 说的很清楚，所以不要讨论这个题了，题本身就是不对的
the passage says that Electra (along with the other alphabeticals) appear ONLY in L, and that they appear in L WITHOUT commentary. That's enough to prove choice E.

开始选C，正确答案是E，后来慢慢想明白了，分享下我的理解~
The true meaning of C is：
In ancient times, E received no commertaries.

While the meaning of stem is:
In manuscript L, E appears without commentary.

So the gap manifests itself:
Perhaps there are commentaries upon E in ancient times, but they have disappeared until none of them accompany E in manuscript L. Or they show up in other manuscripts other than L, avoiding embarrasing meetment with E. ^^

说个白话版的解释~其实没有那么复杂。CE本质上是对历史证据的理解不同，C错误地认为“历史证据不存在=历史上没有发生过”，而E仅仅承认“历史证据不存在”这一事实。
C. 在古代，没有人写过关于Electra的commentary（拜托！你怎么知道没人写过！可能写过但是没有流传下来）
E. does not appear accompanied by a commentary （目前证据显示没有commentary，这是事实啊）
