everyone just relax, don't be so serious, treat here as wenxuecity or people magazine, if you want to have meaningful discussions about the market, macro economics, fiscal policies, upcoming election, i am sure all of you can find better audience around you, chasedream is basically a website for tofel and gmat takers, most people come here to prepare for their tests and get advice on how to improve their applications, somehow i just find those come to this site regularly, and yet don't give a shit about overseas education and experiences amusing, i guess they might either be retarded or just have too much time at their disposal, i don't know about anyone else, but i doubt i am capable of dealing with either two types of individuals. the world is not going to an end, things will get better, for those banks manage to survive the turmoil, they can make a lot of money simply because assets are cheap and companies don't have the same easy access to the capital market as they use to, they would have to pay banks more to borrow money, as for hedge funds (actual hedge funds), things are not that great these days, portfolio liquidation and fire sale at ridiculous levels, you really have to see it to believe how a small 100mm fund turns into 800k in one wk, for once i am glad i am not at the buyside in this kind of environment. one note on blackstone, i personally consider the investment as tuition, no pain no gain, if we didn’t have the foreign direct investment over the past two decades, i doubt the chinese economy can be the way they are today, you can argue billions of profits are being sent back to the us every year, but i guess the real question is whether you like 100% of 0, or 50% of 100 billion. learning ways to invest china’s huge foreign reserve is not like managing your personal portfolio, paying some tuition fees to learn best practices can payoff in the long run, plus most of the losses are merely paper loss, cic is not a hedge fund, there is no redemption pressure, hold it for 3 yrs and everyone will be just fine, this is just my theory, blackstone allows chinese money to engage a lot of the transactions which china might not have access to otherwise. |
