Columbia online application的checklist有一条：

Complete the Financial Guarantee Statement (International Applicants only). Although the FGS is not used in the evaluation process, many international applicants find it helpful to begin collecting the necessary supporting documentation early. If an offer is made, you will have 60 days from that date to mail us the required documents so that a visa may be issued.

网上我没有找到填写的地方，是否必须mail一份过去。是不是可以不睬它，等如果拿到offer才去submit!

In order to expedite Visa processing , international applicants should submit a statement from their financial institution outlining the financial resources available to them for their studies in the United States. Unfortunately, no visa documents can be issued until a Financial Guarantee Statement has been submitted. The FGS must show that a student has the financial resources necessary for both years of study. Although the FGS is not required as part of an application, timely submission of the FGS substantially expedites visa processing for admitted students. All FGS documentation must be original; no photocopies or faxes can be accepted, hence the FGS cannot be completed online. Please send your FGS via regular mail (or other carrier) when you submit your application fee.

偶真想帮忙，可是从头到尾看下来真是爱莫能助，不敢误导。

偶自己就是怕这种东西才放弃了申请yale，但愿你即使不交也不影响录取。但录取之后你还是要立即交文件换取I-20表。

如果没有足够的资金，赶紧找亲戚朋友借钱存到自己的名下吧。

As I said in another posting, the man who answered my call said that an FGS is not a must for application, but the admissions committee will feel COMFORTABLE (he said many times) if you can send the FGS together with your application. I think the FGS is more about the 银行证明
