Risk Quant earn less (But still decent) pay. The working hour for risk quant is not long, and the job security is high compare with Front desk Quant. Given the implementation of Basel II, the demand for risk quant is high in the next few years. PS: To be bloody frank, if you want money, you have to take risk and work under extreme pressure. Trading& Banking is very tough business. It's a battle field. You want to be rich, you'd better sharp yourself to the edge. GS pay very high, but they fire the bottom 15% every year.
