我大学一个很多门不及格的哥们，路子很粗。据说UBC的一个校董和他家关系非同一般，现在已经master毕业，在读phd了。

if a board member want you, the school has to accept you. this is normal in US. I know a similar case in Stanford. basically, he sent in application, did everything that a normal applicant will do. The board member made a phone call to the dean. That is it.

He got admitted at the first disclosure day

But a friendly reminder, that board member has to precisely ask for it. So hopefully your relationship with the board member is tight.
