请教:想不明白的一道题

Six months or so after getting a video recorder,many early buyers apprarently lost interest in obtaining videos to watch on it. The trade of business selling and renting videos is still buoyant, beacause the number of homes with video recorders is still growing. But clearly, once the market for video recorders is saturated, businesses distributing videos  face hard times.

Which of the following, if true, would most seriously weaken the conclusion above?

A) The market for video recorders would not be considered saturated until there was one in 80 percent of homes.

B) Among the items handled by video distributors are many films specifically produced as video features.

C) Few of the early buyers of video recorders raised any complaints about performance aspects of the new product.

D) The early buyers of a novel product are always people who are quick to acquire novelties, but also often as quick to tire of them.

E) In a shrinking market, competition always intensifies and marginal businesses fail.

答案是D.  看不明白它怎么weaken的。。。

The argument thinks that once the video recorder market is saturated, then business distributing video recorder will face hard times.

How to weaken the argument? Clearly, a way to weaken it is to prove that, even though the market is saturated, business will not necessarily face hard times.

let us look at the answer D. When first buyers for the video recorders have the features as stated in common, even though the market is saturated, these buyers will still buy more updated productes, thus not necessarily making business distributing these products face hard times. If so, the argument is weakened.

还是不理解,D 说的应该是新鲜东西的早期购买者是那些很快获得新鲜感,也会很快厌倦的人,跟题目要求的 要削弱once the market for video recorders is saturated, businesses distributing videos  face hard times 关系不大啊,我倒是觉得B沾点边,不过确实觉得没有一个能充分削弱的,

我觉得答案D削弱的原因是把这些早期购买者和其它购买者区分开来。

早期购买的人容易喜新厌旧,是他们的特性,但不能说明其它人也是这样,也会很快厌倦,所以不能用这个数据来论证当市场饱和后日子就会比较难过。

这样解释对楼主有帮助么?

D. The early buyers, who are quick to acquire novelties but also often as quick to tire of them, do not accurately represent the video-watching habit of general public.
