I'm an applicant for 09's LFM program. I just wonder whether there're some Chinese students in this program before, and how many of them? As it's really a competitive program to join, and I heard that most LFM students are Americans and only a few are international students, is that true?
各位大侠, 现在正在严重考虑是不是要申请Sloan。有优势也有劣势。 劣势:本人男生,IT开发背景,而且没有在美国工作的经验。Sloan貌似从来没有招过这种人。 优势:推荐人是Sloan的校友Executive Certificate。 To be or not to be.想听听大家的意见。尤其请教一下各位成功者想了解一下推荐人对于申请Sloan来说是不是至关重要,这个重要程度是不是大到可以消除IT背景的劣势。 谢谢。
Just got WL by Sloan,do you know of any current Chinese alum/admits got pulled out from WL? Am trying to figure out the possiblity of hitting the luck by last chance.
Meanwhile, any suggestion on the next step if I need to take actions to follow this up or at least give it a push?
1. I believe every b school prefer confident and enthusiastic individuals, so you need to express that in your essays as well. I would recommend you to have some native English speakers to proofread your essays to improve on that.
2. I would recommend you to follow Rod's advice. Is your GPA out of 4 or 5? If 4, then 3.01 is ok, and you can focus more on your w/e. If 5, then some explanation might be needed. However, in general, GPA is not as important as your w/e.
From what I know, there are indeed very few international students for the LFM program. Most of them are native English speakers since the academic workload is a lot heavier too. In my class there were no Chinese students in the program. However, I will still encourage you to apply if you are really intrested in it. It is a very good program.
One intersting thing to add is that one of the "Apprentice" winner was from this program...
I think the key question is that whether you are unique enough in the whole package to differentiate yourself in the applicant pool. You just mentioned one side of it - which is w/e.
Though from IT background, as long as you have stellar stories to tell, the adcom will be impressed by you. I think this is true regardless of where you come from and what you work for.
For the recommendation, it's the same. It's another part of the application, but I won't say one can offset another since in the end, a successful applicant needs to be strong in all areas.
Personally, I will still recommend you to apply if you are interested in Sloan. If you don't apply, you don't even have the chance to prove if you are gonna make it right?
