Hi, KeQing. I agree with Xiao Yue.
1, You have to figure out the difference between participle(伴随状语， 修士整个句子, 前面有逗号) and attributive clause(定语， 有先行词). In this case of 9, when you have a quick look at the choices, you discard A,B and C. E is right.(make sth sth)
2, Participle represents, sometimes, an active and continuous action. While simple present is just kind of fact. In 23, ABC are all bad. E is right.(prove + adj.); in the same token, A in 17 is not good, of course, there is no reason to use "had visited".
3, there is an example, though, in OG126 " ... reported genes can jump, like pearls moving ..." Remember: it's active and continuous.
