我还是觉得选C,E不对,the concentration of histidine in the growing herb declines as the plant approaches maturity,注意原文说的是thrive,没有说grow to maturity。很多人说C没有说other related group也生长在高金属的地区,但其实文中已经说了,仔细看第一句话,A certain cultivated herb is one of a group of closely related plants that thrive in soil with high concentrations of metals that are toxic to most other plants,这里的that修饰的是related plants,说明这些related plants也是thrive in soil with high concentrations of metals的,所以如果这些related plants也分泌histidine,那就是最好的加强,有因有果!另外如果E正确,推理被削弱,approach maturity是接近成熟,但并没有成熟,而文中说了thrive,如果在成熟前就不再分泌hisstidine,文中的thrive将不成立。

if you have a group of other plants that are “closely related” and that have the same abnormal ability, then seeing the same correlation across the board in those other plants definitely strengthens the association. analogy: let's say that one person develops cirrhosis of the liver and is a heavy drinker; therefore, we hypothesize that heavy drinking causes cirrhosis of the liver. if we examine a bunch of other people with cirrhotic livers who are similar to the first person and, sure enough, they are all heavy drinkers as well, that is definitely strong support for the idea that heavy drinking causes cirrhosis. should be (c) -- scroll up two posts for the explanation.
