Why don't consider VC? I think your background probably is mainly attractive to VCs. I really doubt any IB or strategic consulting firm will consider you. Even if you join industrial companies, I guess the jobs are not much different from what you are doing at present. Technology background, business sense, strong networking plus finance knowledge to be gained from MBA are key to VCs. I guess you might have networking with VC guys since you worked in Silicon Valley for years. Otherwise just forget what I said above.

If you want to join VCs, Stanford is the best one, followed by H/W/MIT. You may also try HAAS. My VS is very interested in networking with all Chinese students in S/H/W. We almost know all of them, i.e. if we identify any good candidates, we will approach them directly.

to dcresley: I have a friend graduated from UCBerkeley MFE.There are about 60 students each year and there are almost no students from mainland China - all have experience in US.Many MFE students are 30+yo, worked in IT industry and do not have finance background. Most find quantitative jobs after graduation. Career services dept. is not willing to recommend jobs to them.

In 2004, I was hired (for a week) by a VC firm in HK to help with their technical DD in funding a Chinese startup. It's an example of the type of things VCs need guys with technical background.  

I feel choices with VCs are much more limited, though. Is it good to state this as the career goal in the application package?  

What are the H, W in your message? Harvard and Wharton, please?

As for MFE, all what you said are true. Not sure exactly how the job prospects are in the long term. Would you mind letting me contact your friend directly?

You can also think of starting up your own business, or help someone to start up business. There are many new start-ups in China that is owned by Chinese with experience in US.

聽的太多了35歲進不了投資銀行和資訊業。請問那些做出結論的人是在MBA畢業後在投資銀行和資訊業工作多年的成功人士呢﹖還是那些沒什麼工作經驗﹐準備上MBA﹐甚至都沒有在北美工作過的人﹖如果是後者﹐這種評論只是worthless。

讀full time機會成本太大﹐對那些沒什麼經歷﹐沒有子女的人合適。其實畢業時找工作是靠關係和你social是表現的能力﹐跟full time和part time無關。full time不成功的例子也很多﹐人不靈混進top 5 也沒用。

另外算資產最好不加primary residence。那些financial advisor建議退休要有100 - 200W 也是去掉房子的錢的。另外option的錢可以算到資產裡﹐但不要算到預期的年收入裡﹐因為這在最初的幾年過後就沒有了。如果你的primary residence沒有pay off﹐你要考慮是否在你的資產裡減掉mortgage﹐儘管那些financial advisor並不建議在資產裡去掉借的mortgage loan﹐但你要是保守點的話最好還是去掉這部份錢。不能想着老了後這房子就是錢﹐賣了它到中部買個房子就套現了。很多灣區在7﹐8年前買個好學區30多萬房子現在都值150萬。很多人老了是不想搬家的。

請你再次算過你的資產後再考慮你的機會成本。38歲畢業和30歲畢業的確有個區別﹐就是畢業後你會少工作8年﹐除非你不想退休。再看看你能不能把這個MBA的投資賺會來。上MBA是為了實現夢想﹖我看還是省省吧。算清楚投資和回報就行了。

我看就你的情況還是berkeley的part time最適合你。當然能不能拿到就看運氣了。最好有點什麼很special的東西。象樓主這樣一直比較順利的人才﹐尤其是engineer,並不一定是berkeley歡迎的.

我觉得过了四十最好在自己熟悉的领域里做,还去摸爬滚打,很辛苦的.LZ很适合考虑找机会自己开公司之类的.我一朋友EE毕业的,跟LZ一样大,PHD毕业(挺晚,本科是生化),在硅谷做了一两年,回国两三年了.现在是某硅谷企业家投资的上海分公司的DIRECTOR,前两天产品上市,还狂宣传了一阵.

是挺多的,我这么远都能认识两个,好象进门也没有什么难度,感觉跟我们这边的UF差不多.
