理工科博士， 36岁， 考虑转行读 MBA

wanted to ask similar question:  switching at "old age", does Full-time really worth it?  Part-time is really hard to switch. I had a couple colleagues, really waste time. Like in NYC, seems every has NYU part-time.  no use at all. unless you go to Hongkong.

Full-time is the way, but not sure after graduation, is it easy to go and find the dream job and pay?

Agree that part-time is useless for the most part.

It's also almost impossible given my situation. Two kids. One is two years old. The other just born.

I am thinking to buy an apt in BJ, and send the family there to stay with the in-laws for two years.

It's clear that you don't want to be an engineer anymore, but it's unclear what you want to do next. At your stage,  with a high opportunity cost, you should try your best to figure that out before you apply. For example, if you want high compensation, you will probably be disappointed if you return to industry, at least for the first 3~5 years. If you want to manage others, you may not really get it in IB or MC in the first several years. If you go for MFE, you will probably still be an "engineer" but with finance related job and a higher bonus.

学业，科研，和技术上一直做的不错。国内曾是某名牌大学少年班的。科研上有30多篇论文和十个专利. 2003年自己还业余搞了个发明，卖给硅谷一家startup 公司, 获利约500k, 付清了房贷。

但本人长期以来志向就不是专搞技术，内心其实厌恶枯燥繁琐的科研技术工作。毕业时虽有作 faculty 的机会，
   但几乎毫不犹豫的选择了工业界。读书和职业生涯中曾多次大幅转换专业领域，
   一是追求热门，
   二是本人觉得技术上在一个领域搞长了就新鲜感全没有了。工作换的也频繁。正是因为这些，
   一直没能作出大的名气。
   甚至在公司里也未能担任什么 Leader.

以当前这种状况，实在不想在一条老路上继续走下去。本人其实兴趣十分广泛，爱好文,史，哲，音乐，(但没有体育)，业余时间自己炒房,炒股,炒地，都颇有斩获。Communication skills, People skills, Team work, and Time management, 自己觉得都不错。

现在虽拖家带口, 仍在考虑读一名校MBA。后半生仍想在business world 实现自己的价值。

几个月前刚考了GMAT, 760, AWA 4.5.

坛子上有没有志同道合的朋友请与我联系。背景相似的犹为欢迎。

个人觉得写essay 是个大问题。愿一起切磋。

1、不仅仅是技术领域，只要是工作，长久了意思都一般

2、申请的时候，有背景差异大的申友也许效果更好

I can not agree with you on part-time MBA
Full time MBA, you may get more time for social. However, you can build good  network when you pursue a part time MBA.
If I step in your shoes, I will not hesitate to go for HAAS part time and take care family.

I think MBA or not, part time or full time, are not the key here. The point is how to change the orbit of our career lives. MBA is just one of the most conservative ways to do it.

Seriously, I am wondering what is the fundamental difference between part time and full time? Hearsay is not really convincing.
