E项是正确的。声波本身的特质就是在水中的衰减非常小，boundaries会令声波衰减，而不是让声波不衰减，C，D项错在把boundaries当好人了。

preventing作伴随状语，把它调到句首就十分容易理解了。

Preventing its acoustic energy from dissipating by boundaries in the ocean created by water layers of different temperatures and densities, sound can travel through water for enormous distances.

逻辑上可以理解为：因为能量不被水减弱，声波可能传千里。

根據白勇語法全解P.126 第5章第10題(正解E)：

解釋～ -ing分詞短語在句尾：作伴隨結果狀語或者伴隨動作狀語;作伴隨結果狀語時沒有邏輯主語，作伴隨動作狀語時邏輯主語等於主句主語。

BD選項：以邏輯意思來解，using a Doppler ultrasound device不可能作為伴隨"結果"狀語;當作伴隨"動作"狀語時，fetal heartbeats use a Doppler ultrasound device，邏輯意思不合理。

同理可證，這題的E如果作伴隨結果狀語，邏輯意思不合理:變成是"因為聲波可以傳千里，所以不受邊界限制"(因果顛倒);如果作伴隨動作狀語，邏輯主語等於句子主語，就變成:sound prevent its acoustic energy from...邏輯意思也不合理，因為sound不會自己去prevent sth.

原文想表达的是 sound travel far， 后面的prevented from...  想表达是一种条件，有点像if it is prevented from...

而c的意思类似于原文，给出condition：its acoustic energy...

E的伴随状语更倾向于事实，即的确在preventing ，与事实不符。

但这里为什么分词前还有its acoustric energy，不 就是一个句子去掉了谓语嘛，这也是独立主格吗？
