I have just received the rejection letter from Smith. Half unexpected, half expected. I have a decent GMAT score(+700) and decent working experience(+5 yrs, sales/marketing) and I don't think my essays are that poor. But probably I am a little bit older in terms of gender(male could be better) and my undergraduate is not outstanding. and I know there is a trend that more and more NN with master degree, PHD or double majors  or from overseas are applying. At that scale, I seemed to be vulnerable.  I have been dinged by two schools so far, I was totally upset.  The Spring Festival for me is really not happy.

LZ, I don't think your background weigh that much. I think it is more important that you market yourself well. To convince the admission comittee that you will succeed after MBA. That is what they expect, what you can bring them.

You have to show who you are, why MBA, why school, career goals, what you need from MBA and what you can bring them. As many people have said, be yourself. To convince them that you are a strong candidate and you will help their rankings to go up.

I only have two years work experience but I try a lot to show my leadership potential. I got three offers up to now, all with scholarship in various amount.

Bettywush, your words are right. But I don't think I perform that poor as far as I was interviewed. The interviewer was listening closely what I demonstrated about myself and always commented with "fantastic" with an agreeing gesture. However, though I think I interacted with him well, there should be something elsewhere I must pay attention to or need to improve, if not for age or academic background. So I really hope NN like Betty to share their personal experiences or views. Thanks in advance.

Do you mean Sam Kam? Mostly, the interviewer always responds with positive words. However, I do think you are an excellent applicant and the age is not a big deal, your background is perfect. Citing what abc once said, it's more like a marriage.

Yes. It is mostly "fit or match" sometimes plays a more important role,(if I have to find an excuse to comfort myself. )
