I did. But I doubt whether I have a good chance. The director told me our program is strong in corporate finance, but my interest is in investment side and I don't have much to talk about that in my PS. Though she did encourage me to apply.

I think finance@U-Wisconsin has made the decisions. Some one was rejected several days ago. So you can check your application status with them. I log into the application website and the decision letter is posted there!

To XieXiaoyu,

     Obviously, we are both in the first round of the application(which, I guess, are evaluated by two chinese faculties, so lucky this year) and after they make the second round list before the next week, they will interview the first round applicants, on campus or by telephone. Since you are not  that far from here, I hope you could arrange a time to make a trip here. Surely, I can make the host stuff for you. hehe. Good Luck for both of us.

I accepted the job offer, so consequently gave up my PhD application at least for this year.

Ironically, I just got the message from Toni Whited (Director of UW-Madison Finance PhD program) that I was rejected.

She hasn't decided whom to send first round offers, but you guys can ask whether you are on her "short list" just as I did.

The job market is really good .I think it is a wise choice to take the job offter at this time.You can learn something new in your firm and realize what is your preference,industry or academia.In my opinion,a few years work experiecne or intern will increase the chance of being admitted to top programs.
