Wharton doesn't want Shaq. Heard they are basically picturing if you are the one sitting in the classroom at Wharton next year, sharing knowledge with peer, and helping eachother to acchieve more. One word: 'fitting in' is more important than 'standing out'. Very sure you are qualified to get into any school below HWS, while the chance at HWS is really random. Good luck with H/S.

没想到现在一无所有.....sigh.... 尤其是wharton, 真的不知道他们怎么选人了......特别看到连big four(一年招几千人)和一些其他无名公司的经验也能录取.... 真的是无言啊.... 像我这种IB(国内一年只招几个的)却什么都没拿到....

我现在是彻底相信essay的重要性了..... 但是自我感觉essay写得也不差啊.......

dont take it too seriously. its only a game. i just happened to chat with a friend who graduated from a top five school a couple of years ago. we all agreed that we dont understand why some of our classmates could get in....

you are dinged by wharton. this says nothing negative about you. only shows that you didnt prepare a strong application and you didnt know the rule of this game. try to find out the reason and pull out a stronger package.

by the way, you are not alone at all. my friend who applied last years was dinged by all three schools he applied. He was the first trader recruited by big international banks from mainland china. 80hkd base salary at age of 25. impeccaple academic background and G/T scores....so...

you can send me a message if you want. i happen to have some time these days and am willing to help. i cant say i am big at application but after experiencing all the process and reviewing many friends' successful or failed application, i at aleast could pinpoint your mistakes.

还是挺想去wharton读个mba的, 毕竟美国市场比中国大多了, 中国做IB做到头, 不过就是一堆钱和一个垮掉的身体, 而在美国MBA后有幸混进一个HF, 就是可以35岁退休的生活

If you are only interested in hedge fund, try to figure out the placement stat of each school. you may check that out from school's websites. each year, whats the percentage of people got placed at hedge fund? i am not sure if wharton is strong at hedge fund. hope some insiders could share some information.

by the way, life at hedge fund is not as easy as you imagined. to be honest, banking experience is not directly relevant at hedge fund. trading experience does. and most mbas at hedge fund actually end up with the research role...

one more point, there are tons of hedge funds in nyc and greenwich but most of them died out quickly.

But I heard from Chicago alumni that PE and VC is not so strong there. The opportunity is very very limited. Only H/S got better chance in general

先声明，我是看了楼主鄙视BIG4的Attitude进来的。

如果你只是本科毕业，在国内投行工作3年，很大一部分时间是做Dirty Work？我的大学同学，同事里跳出去做IB的基本上都是在HK的大行。你太自信了，申请人里面IB背景比你强的多了去了。这几年，每年北大清华复旦都有不少去香港大行工作的。

我就是BIG4出来的，First Year Audit Manager，做过不少IPO，跟大大小小的投行里面的Banker也打过交道，里面扯淡屁都不懂得还很DIAO的人多了去了(我承认这也是能耐)。我的背景 GMAT:760(5.0)/TOFEL: 653(6.0)/GPA:3.5+/FDU Undergraduate/一堆cfa,cpa,cia的证书。我觉得背景也不会丢脸比你弱太多。现在累得像孙子一样一点点挤时间偷偷申请，很郁闷时间不够只来得及弄一所学校；因为见过太多背景强没录取的人，所以现在也不是太有信心。

别因为没录取自己就一幅苦大仇深，然后鄙视被录取的人，鄙视学校的选人原则。心态放好最重要，每个人都有自己的selling point，这些东西不是光看和背景有关的几个数字能看出来的。不过看得出来你对W committment不够，所以祝你好运气能被H/S收到。
