答案C。我每次做这篇阅读都是错这一个，选了A。选C就是因为文中提到过hereditary office-holding？象这道题，怎么正确分析呢？谢谢。

hereditary office-holding，是指继承性的职位。类似于我们封建时代的子承父业。

我也被这题阴了。。。从来不看括号内容的说。。。。

我也错选A了，看文章时还想着括号里肯定有考点，就好像OG里面有一篇说男女竞选，女的因为什么短时间啥的在括号里就考了个为什么女的竞选频率低于男的。做这篇这道题时就没有定位准，还把题目理解成收税的部门。。。

我也选了A，可是现在看看A是很有问题的，我选A是受overlords' income resulted almost as much from laxity among their tax collectors的影响，但其实想想，office是一种source仅仅是一种可能而已，基本是自己主观猜测的，也许将军不靠这个捞钱呢？这么想想就通了~~
